Anyone who thought, even if healthy and at peak performance, that this D could duplicate the 2011 squad was simply delusional.

Not sure. He may or not be putting the defense is the best situation to succeed.

They have elite talent in spots (Stingley, Delpit, etc), but units as a whole aren’t deep

Delpit in his current state and with the health issues he’s had all year is nowhere near an elite player.

DO you think Jimbo was actually worth $75 mil based on results? Or do you think perhaps other factors were at play?

Some of yall are so simple

You provided an excellent example. The product on the field clearly shows Jimbo was not worth the 75 million guaranteed to him by A&M. Likewise, The product on the field so far this year clearly shows Dave Aranda was not worth 10 million guaranteed to him by LSU.

Based on your example I think we can both agree Aranda is not earning his salary.

I like Aranda and wouldn’t mind him staying at LSU but I would also be ok with him moving on after this season. I get why LSU paid him what they did. At the time the defense was winning games for you and keeping that guy happy and keeping him away from you rival was goal number one and two.

Prior to this season Dave Aranda was the top DC in the power 5 by the numbers. So yes his contract was justified.

If no one else would sign him again for that money including LSu, you would be correct.

The market dictates his worth. I dont think hes a top 5 DC though.

The big play is his Achilles this year.

It's amazing that some defend him after OM just gained over 600 yds on us

More amazing that people defended O after he lost to Troy. That seemed to work out.

They didnt. They defended the final stretch run that season.

No one defended O following Troy.

Is he better than anyone else available is the only question that matters.

Of course we have fans who want to scrap the entire philosophy that’s led to this point (#1 10-0). They believe now that Orgeron has gotten us into position that he alone can continue to put us there when in fact it’s the template thought up by him that has us here. The philosophy behind the O hire was that he’d take less money, recruit and motivate while hiring the best coordinators and assistants available and spending the money there. This is what he’s done and it’s worked but now because of personal beefs and biases the Rant wants it undone. Thank god they’re not in any decision making positions.

The answer is NO, the extra money is not producing results

Here's where I think people don't fully understand why he got the salary he did in the first place. Future expectations are definitely a part of the equation but it seems like many on this board forgot why he ALREADY earned it.

If it wasn't for Aranda we would have looked quite terrible these past few years while O was looking for a way to fix the offense. We lost a Bama game 10-0 and that score didn't even happen until the 4th quarter. There are other games like this too where the D did all they could to keep us alive, but that one always jumps out at me. Aranda helped keep us in games week in and week out the past few years. Games that really mattered.

So is it a down year? Yes. Does that mean everything else Aranda did to keep lsu relevant with a dated offense these past few years should be forgotten? No. Until I say some definitive trend that he can't take care of business in the big games I'm not going to worry about it. He's a top tier DC and has helped LSU through some low times so he should be given the benefit of the doubt at least until we lose one game because of the defense. Why there's even a discussion like this right now is beyond me.
