This is more like late signing day. With the transfer portal more and more coaches are pushing high school kids to sign in December

It's been replaced by ESD. Today is now a technicality for those who didn't want to announce last year but by this time everyone pretty much knows where they are going.
ESD is just as fun IMO.

i'm old enough to remember when chicken had to turn off the emoticons and auto-loading of images to keep the site from constantly crashing all day.

Seriously, the Bayou Jam was great. It is a different time. Early signing day has taken the fun out of it, but I am a fan. It gets kids who truly want to be there signed, and early enrollees are on campus already.

That’s true. But with the portal even ESD has lost some of its luster to me.

Almost all of the recruits sign on Early Signing Day. Sure, there are some stragglers that will sign today, but even under the old system, there were always some stragglers who signed after National Signing Day.
NEW Early Signing Day = OLD National Signing Day

They need to get rid of early signing day with the playoffs coming. December is just a crazy month with bowl games, transfer portal and early signing day.
