Should the NCAA go to something like targeting 1 and targeting 2?

I say instead of a blanket targeting call they need to go to a targeting 1 and targeting 2. 1 would be a targeting call the refs deem unintentional and would be a 15 yard penalty. 2 would be targeting deemed intentional and would follow the current rules. What the rant say.

They can't decide what targeting is so deciding 1 or 2 would be just a sign bad. The whole targeting rule isn't BS anyways. Go play golf if you don't want to get hit.

They already make that type of distinction for running into the punter vs roughing the punter. There is definitely precedent for making a distinction on targeting fouls.

How about just not call targeting on people that don’t look like they are “targeting” someone’s head? Targeting should be very obvious. There should be no question as to whether it should be called. As it is written now, the rule is way too encompassing.

The refs and/or replay officials will frick that up too.
Just make it a 15 yard penalty and only throw a player out of the game if he has two personal fouls.

Yes. One of the goals to the Free Devin whife campaign is to get a refresh on the rules. It’s soudns it was written by people that never played football. I like the two strikes and you are out deal.
