This isn’t even a question. He should get every 1st team rep in bowl practice, with Howard getting the 2s. Thank JD for his service but it’s not longer needed.

Try to turn this in to Nuss’ 2018 Fiesta Bowl.

I would rather Nuss over a healthy JD anyhow.

The receivers have a different mindset when he is in.

The best QB should start. I don’t care who it is. I love the pressure Nuss has now put on Daniels.

This. A switch flipped; it made me sick seeing that Boutte is still explosive and we just wasted him when the key was on the bench.

+1. He said he liked Nuss over the summer.

He and Nabers tried to tell us; they knew who their quarterback should have been all along.

I probably would. It's an exhibition game. No need in playing Daniels. Let him heal and be ready to go in the spring. if we lose we lose. The bowl game is largely unimportant in the grand scheme.

It also gives Nuss another game of film as the starter, start to finish, if we are to have a QB competition leading into next season.

Nuss started last year against Arkansas for us. I'm indifferent between him and Daniels. Both heavy pros and cons with each. Daniels probably gives us the better chance to win most games but we won't always look good doing so. Nuss gives us the better chance in games where we may he outmatched IMO (e.g
UGA and Tennessee)

It’s almost like he had a vast improvement between the ends of his first and second years

JD is at the end of his 4th - ceiling is reached.

No he didn't. Johnson started and played the first 2 offensive possessions. Nuss came in at the end of the 1st quarter and played the rest of the game

During the game saturday they said he couldn't get back to 100% until the offseason. Which made me believe he needed surgery.

They were just speculating due to the nature of severe ankle sprains. Much like Fournette in 2016. He was never going to get back to 100% unless he stopped playing for several months because those things take a long time to fully heal and are very easy to reinjure and go back to square one with the recovery time. A bad ankle sprain like Daniels has isn't going to fully heal in the month he has before our bowl game

I know a lot of folks doubt Nuss but if Kelly loses Nuss because he wants a 4 year starter who has reached his ceiling as a passer to come back and limit the offense like JD has, he will live to regret it. Having a deep passing attack or the threat of a reliable passing game does so much more to help your offensive game plan. Teams defensively can literally remove the deep passing threat with JD at QB and play a 20 yard game. The only reason this team was successful was his athletic ability out of the pocket and the defense stepped and played well in a lot of games. We saw exactly how exposed, offensively, we became when the defense wasn’t successful.

Absolutely, hell yea.Daniels still has accuracy issues hes had since before he got here. He's not improving his faults. Folks say Nuss will throw 20 interceptions, that can be coached up. Our past Qb's sometimes threw int's as well. I don't want a Qb that's reluctant to throw unless a reciever is open by 10 yds.
I appreciate all that Daniels has done this year but I refuse to not credit his faults as well.

Everyone that tries to use Nuss’s first start against him is moronic. Hell you shouldn’t even use Southern against him as it was obvious he was pressing as he was trying to make a case for him to start.

I think he has matured a lot this year. He forced some throws against Georgia, but we were down big and they knew we were throwing. People have zero idea how he will look with a full game from the start where we can run our entire offense.

I agree, but this statement goes both ways. Something a lot of the posters on this board don’t understand.

With the playoff expansion to 12 teams I really see the other bowls truly becoming like an NFL pre-season game: starters get first half, 2nd string get 3rd quarter and 3rd string gets 4th quarter. Coaches might even have an informal handshake agreement on it before kickoff. Of course, you have sponsors, organizers, tv to complain and, like our situation this year, there is real benefit to getting to a 10-win season but in a year where you are 8-5 why the hell wouldn’t a coach throw in all subs during the game, I mean walk-ons for a few plays too?

Absolutely. If he doesn't perform to expectations then it is easier to let him walk and move into next season with JD, Walker Howard, and Rickie Collins as your quarterback room. But to let him leave with no real opportunity to showcase his ability would be a gut punch

I hope Daniels starts just to see people lose their minds and start calling for Kelly to be fired. This was always gonna go from Daniels to Howard.

Daniels is a good guy to right the ship. Then Howard takes LSU to the top. Nuss is too wild to lead a rebuilding team, and not good enough to play over Howard.
