I'd like to hear from some of the knowledgeable baseball posters as to whether they think Coach Mainieri should make any changes to the LSU baseball program in order to win another CWS Championship. Obviously LSU has a great program, but are there any specific things that could be done to make it better such as a new hitting coach, different type of players, different approach at the plate, more base stealing, etc.? Or is the program fine the way it is, and it's just a matter of putting it all together at the right time?

I think it's pretty obvious where the change needs to be made.

Hit more home runs. His teams haven't even come close to 188.

Yes, he should figure out a way to disguise the old bats to look like the new ones.

I listened to Mike Cauble with WBRZ Channel 2 sports out of Baton Rouge today online on the Buddy Songy show and I certainly don't profess to be the most knowledgeable baseball fan, but the point that Cauble brought out today was that with the Ameritrade ball park being the way it is and with the new bats etc. , its like you have to be prepared to be a team like UCLA in the CWS and yet according to Cauble and Songy that type of team would not win the SEC. Sounds sort of crazy but if the CWS is to continue in that ballpark in Omaha which Im sure it is for awhile, then IMO , PM is going to have to make some change in philosophy whether it makes for boring baseball or not.

I am by far an expert but develop more hitters. Seems that great pitching shuts us down for the most part and we can't or refuse to manufacture runs.

I'm not going to claim to be one of the knowledgeable posters, but he can't fix what ain't broke. For most of the season 2-6 were hitting over .375 and the wins kept coming. I don't know if it was good scouting, the park, or pure bad luck but the meat of the lineup fell flat in Omaha. PM is paid the big bucks to figure that out. I say learn from the experience and tweek slightly in practice rather than drastically changing the team's philosophy.

I just don't understand why the hitters have to be penalized in Omaha, and not the pitchers. Pitcher can throw junk with no real worry about the batter going yard.

MSU is showing that you can power your way through the CWS.

I think people are overreacting a bit to what happened. We simply had too many of our players that we rely on the most slump and we failed.

One hit with RISP in one of thise games changes everything, so while all programs need to assess opportunities to get better, I think we're fine.

There's a decent chance that during this offseason one or both of these things will happen - a) NCAA will go to the minor league baseball. b) the fences will be shortened at Ameritrade and for that matter at Hoover. What some of you who say we can't win at Ameritrade with our style seem to forget is that we won an SEC Tourney at Hoover with this style. So what I'm saying is don't change. We went 0-2 in this years CWS because our 3,5,& 6 hitters went 0-24, not cause we didn't play "small-ball".
