We ran the ball the entire second half against Vandy, completely abandoning the pass.

Good thing since Jefferson was 8/20 96 yards and a pick....

Now let us look at UNC/State Jefferson was 25/37 67% 2 TD 1 INT 248 Yards.... decent numbers for Jefferson. He played OK and did not hurt LSU in those 2 games but did not win either of those games. Against UNC Special teams dominated, against State the defense and special teams were nasty.

Jefferson played very well against A&M his best game of the season.
He played well against Ole Miss and was vital for LSU winning that game

Against Arkansas his numbers do not look bad on surface but he was indecisive. Took sacks, had a couple of fumbles (1 lost) and did not do anything in the second half.

All I'm saying with Vandy is that he had 0 chance to come back and put together an inspired performance. Whether he would have or not, neither you or I can say but we'd probably both concede that it would have been more of the same. Moot point.

Let's establish something. Jefferson is not a quarterback that is going to win a game for LSU. That should be understood by now. So he did what he needed to do. Special teams dominated against UNC and we had 5 INTs against MSU. Jefferson fulfilled his role in those games, moved the chains, limited mistakes, and put up points.

Arkansas is whatever you want to make of it. He was bipolar between halves and inaccurate, but kept us in the game, which is his proper role on the team. Defense let us down BIG in that game.

My point being, Jefferson found his 2009 form toward the end of last season, it's not a stretch to think that he could improve upon or at least continue that performance. Though at the end of the day, it might not matter as Mett's alleged savvy is better than 2009 Jefferson by a long shot anyway.

True this.
JJ atually had a beter game than Mallet, take away the padded yds from LSU D screwing up a couple plays.

Really, "carried"???!! How about we won in spite of some awful performances. Anyone NOT calling for a really wide open competition with the best guy getting the starting job is not a true fan in my book!

I disagree on the defense letting us down... It was the worse defensive performance but LSU was in the game at halftime... LSU was put in 2 prime scoring situations early in the second half and the offense could not capitalize. The offense is just as much to blame for that loss.

LSU couldn't rush either. I wouldn't putit all on QB. It was a team effort that fell short.
I don't get the propaganda that the D won all 11 and the O, or JJ reading between the lines, lost 2.

I said offense... not QB...

The offense I do believe lost 2... against Auburn and Arkansas the defense was bad but the offense was much like all season mediocre....

Defense and Special teams won plenty of games for LSU and put the offense in prime position for either an extremely short touchdown or a short field goal.

In case you don't remember we WERE using a 2-QB system which curbed his numbers early

You mean he had fewer incompletions and fewer inceptions than he would have had we not used two QB's?

Not enough ppg to make that statement. A great assist, but not game winners. I'm not arguing the fact the pass O was crap much of the season. I will say I wonder how much % the fault was between the 2 QBs and OC.

The way they put the offense in prime field position most of season certainly helped.

I give it 50/50, as I have said before. Both QB's are flawed, both have some sort of mental block, both have limitations in their game. Crowton did not place them in prime situations but when they had opportunities neither was able to make the most of it. I mean we don't know how often Crowton would call the perfect play and then the players failed to execute nor do we know how many times he called the wrong one and they turned it into something. So I am sticking with 50-50 since it is safe

LSU won despite the most poor QB play that the team has had in my lifetime. Read into it what you want.

LSU will have to have an upgrade at the position next year. If it's JJ, fine. It means he has GREATLY improved. It it;s Mettenberger, fine. It means he beat out JJ.

My guess, Mettenberger will be starting before mid season and finish out the year. LSU fans don't owe loyalty to any player and neither of the incumbants "deserve" to start the season with no competition.

I see CLM easing him in game to game, possibly taking over starting job if all goes well. He'll be keen on having Mett SEC-ready for 2012.

How could everything go well and Mett start for LSU this year if he doesn't start off the year as the starter? You think Les will pull JJ if LSU is undefeated?

See 2010. LSU was undefeated when Lee was inserted some series.
You guys are too hung up on who the starter is. I think Mett will be given a chance and lets hope he makes the best of it.

Its the way he carries himself, is not a leader.....very selfish, and when we lose he looks like he isnt hurt at all. When we win....he wants all the credit. With an accurate POISED quarterback who knows how long the pocket will stay up and when he needs to scramble or dump it off we could be a very good passing team. With Shep, Randle. Toliver, and Jarvis Landry.....we could beat people through the air all day.....and dont forget the freak of nature who is scared to hit anyone or get hit at all....DeAngelo Peterson.
