Should Dan Borne announce Here Come the Defending National Champions

When the Tigers race out of the chute right before kickoff should Dan Borne announce Here Comes the Defending National Champions, your Fighting Tigers of LSU?
What does Coach O want? Saban always eschewed the term defending national champions as he viewed each season as a new year and new team which was striving for a current title and not defending last year's accomplishment.
Orgeron is a different type coach and might like the cache of being the reigning champions. Anything to promote the brand. I would like them to be introduced as defending champions.

I don’t think there is such a thing as “defending “ National Champions.
LSU could go 0-12 in 2020 and the 2019 NC will never be taken away. If the 2020 team wins it they win a different one. Nothing is being defended.

You are not wrong, but defending champions has been used in other sports. The basketball team has been introduced as the defending champions of the Southeastern Conference. The gymnastics team has also received the intro the last three seasons. I think it kind of adds a little swag to the program, but obviously it won't win a game in the new season.

No because they are not defending champions. They 2019 champions and always will be. You cannot defend a championship won in 2019 in 2020

Saban is correct. The terminology is incorrrect.
You can’t “defend” something that can’t be lost.....and you can’t lose the 2019 Natty.

Yes it has been used before. I think it just puts extra pressure on the ‘20 team. Let them write their own story. Now boxing, UFC, those championships are defended. Only one person holds a title at the time.
