So now you can't ask people to come in for questioning without being sued for defamation?
I'm assuming this only applies to people when lots of money is involved or should the common street thug sue, as well?

The damage part is this, if you or any journalist for that matter, called a police department to find out the details of an ongoing investigation, you would get the "can't comment on an investigation thing" and get no names. What was the cause and intent behind Collins name being publicly released? If the dude was involved, then by all means let him have what's coming to him but have you heard one single other name of a person being questioned? If not, why? Why Collins? There's your damage.

I think there is more to this than anybody here knows. La'El is acting like he has something to hide. Dude lawyered up immediately. Innocent people don't lawyer up that fast.

Yeah, I'm not willing to bet my life that my natural charm and earnestness comes through during police interrogation.

I read it here.
gotcha, we shall see how it plays out maybe this is a good sign. I wonder why only one guy is reporting it if i was La'el i'd want everyone to know.

why doesn't a hometown kid even get the benefit of "let's wait and see before passing judgement?"
BRPD cannot afford to give him the benefit of the doubt if he has information on a MURDER. Either he's a murderer, he has information on the identity of the murderer, or he knows nothing.
BRPD is entitled to figure out which it is and it should not matter whether he is waiting to get drafted.

I was talking about you and others on this thread, not BRPD.
and, as I've said before, of course they are obligated only to the investigation/not to the draft. but they were under no obligation to confirm anything about La'el to anyone. why did they? does that break the case wide open? does announcing that he knew the murder victim or could be the father of her child advance the case in any way?
seriously, what have they gained? anything at all?

They got his attention to where he wanted to cooperate. They should give 2 shits about his stature in the community or draft status.
ETA: not sure why you lumped me into whatever category you lumped me into. I am only pointing out that BRPD has an obligation to solve a murder not ensure someone who may or may not know anything about that murder gets drafted.

can you link to where it said he was "uncooperative?" i know that BRPD said they hadn't yet been able to get in touch with him, but I've never seen anything suggesting that he's not cooperating.

I know there are inadmissible in court for a reason - highly unreliable.

it very clearly wasn't taken to be admissible in court. he took it to do whatever he could to clear his name.
