Josh Pastsner would bring a great recruiting career here. Coached under Olsen and Cal.

Shaka Smart is the only choice here.

I wish the admins would sticky a thread that said simply Shaka Smart turned down 2.5 million dollars from Illinois.

Yes Alleva has to do his job and give him a call but if he turned that one down he sure aint comin here

I would be absolutely ecstatic if we got Drew, but I just don't see what would be in it for him to come here.

I don't either. It would have to be a dream job for him.

Drew recruits the frick out of La and east Texas as it is... maybe he thinks it'd be even easier at LSU than Baylor

It already seems pretty easy for him as it is. Not to mention he pulled two good guys from North Carolina.

From Machiavelli: "It is better to be impetuous than cautious, because fortune is a woman. ... And one sees that she lets herself be won more by the impetuous than by those who proceed coldly. And so always, like a woman, she is the friend of the young, because they are less cautious, more ferocious, and command her with more audacity."

Hire a young up-and-comer! Make it someone who is succeeding at a small-time program.

Billy Gillespie would actually be a perfect fit here. He worked wonders at Texas A&M, another school that doesn't give a shite about basketball unless they're winning.

He's an alchi and a poor people's person, but a really good recruiter and coach. He was a terrible fit at Kentucky, where you have to be a greasy tool bag recruiter and glad hand the boosters constantly (see Calipari, John).

A&M was a worthless program prior to Gillespie. He's not going to be able to do much at Tech besides maybe get them to the tournament every few years.

Mark Few is not leaving a power that he built in Gonzaga for our empty PMAC. Smart just turned down a better job in Illinois.

I'm not sure if Buzz Williams would step down from a better job at Marquette to go LSU, where he's always going to be second to football and maybe third to baseball.

Jamie Dixon would be a decent hire, but he's a bit of a choker come tournament time.

Randy Bennett at St. Mary's would be the best hire in my opinion. He's worked wonders at a nobody program, by leaching off of Gonzaga's success in their conference. He's developed under-recruited kids like Omar Samhan, Patty Mills (lighting it up for the Spurs now), and Matthew Dellavadova. He's also got some weird recruiting connection to Australia, which produces decent college basketball talent.

LSU basketball is perhaps one of the shittiest major conference jobs in the country. It's perhaps one of the few decent basketball jobs, that is behind freaking college baseball (terribly supported outside of the south). Recruits don't want to play in front of empty seats, and fans won't come unless we're winning or playing a big time team = terrible situation for a good coach.

Basketball is not third to baseball. If they did equally well for ten years basketball would have the larger following. In fact, if basketball was just a competitive SEC club it would have the larger following even if baseball was going to Omaha half the time.

My thoughts...an elite coach at a mid-major ain't coming to LSU to deal with unrealistic expectations.

Shaka Smart...runs shite at VCU and makes 7 figures, he has a good arse job.

Brad Stevens...two Final Fours at Butler...makes good money...he has a good arse job.

People need to taper expectations here. This is LSU hoops, not LSU football or baseball.

Proven winner at a good (not elite) mid-major school or a big name looking for redemption.

Or ULL coaching legend "The General" Robert Lee.

Oh I agree with this 100%, but baseball still gets great support even when they're mediocre (see last year). Our basketball team defined mediocrity this year, but still had lousy attendance.

It's the same for most of the SEC West schools besides Mississippi State.

I'd also like to see a coach who has the balls to schedule tough home and home series with powerhouse programs out of conference. One or two games a year against Marquette, or Utah, or Virginia isn't exactly the most exciting basketball game. Fans will come if they here that Duke or Syracuse are coming to town. LSU is actually a good early season road game for a power program to find its footing. TJ never really challenged us too much out of conference, outside of the Preseason NIT in 2009.
