I get that, but a coworker pointed out that bait is used to lure something to its eventual death, imprisonment, etc.

Yes, your presence threatens to evoke a predatory response and may ultimately lead to your "eventual death, imprisonment, etc."

Exactly. So think about fans walking to Tiger Stadium and telling them they're tiger bait. You're taunting them and telling them that they, along with their team, are being lured into the Tiger's den for an arse kicking before being devoured.

Not that hard to comprehend...It means every team not named LSU. For example: When Landon Collins chose Bama over LSU, he immediately became "tiger bait"...if you will.
