AR was a one-and-done the second he set foot on campus. I think everybody knew that going in.

You act like this only happens to LSU, I'm pretty sure if Randolph stayed we wouldn't have been better than Memphis, b/c Rose would have stayed, and that man is tearing it up in the NBA.

Agreed, but now were throwing more "what ifs" into the original "what if" question. Which is why we shouldnt ask WHAT IF questions!

Al McGuire defined this situation many years ago when he was head coach at Marquette and his prime-time player, Dean "The Dream" Meninger went pro early. The administration was critical and McGuire is reported to have said, "Father, he gets a million dollars. How do I explain that it's better to stay here and earn a letter?"

Anthony Randolph - Current Salary:$1,709,280
he made the right decision...

Not necessarily. He was mid to late 1st Rd. This year's draft class is really weak as opposed to last year's class which was stroneg, so there is a chance he could have ended up being top 5 pick

Butch Pierre intended to undermine Trent Johnson by encouraging Anthony Randolph to go pro?

I woudln't doubt it. Didn't Butch pull some shady shenanigans with recruits trying to get them to OSU?

Wrong. AR ended up going mid/late 1st rd last year. If he had stayed another year, he could have been in the top 5 b/c this year's class in very weak.

I'm not saying it was a bad decision to go pro, but it certainly wouldn't have been "stupid" decision to return for one more year.

This isn't the NFL where you get $50 million for going in the top 5 or whatever.

The difference from a top 5 pick and a top 15 pick aren't really that huge.

Randolph, by going early, is receiving better coaching from NBA coaches, and playing against better competition. Plus he is 1 year closer to getting his next big contract.

Not to mention he could have gotten injured this year.

Dude made a great decision by leaving.

+1

Which is why its smarter to take the money when you can. If you get hurt your rookie year, you can always use <1% of your earnings to go back and get a degree

Over the life of the contract its about a $4 to 5 million difference. I never said he made a bad decision, but I don't think it was a no-brainer great decision. It was probably the safest choice.
