Trindon in the game lined up next to JJ in the shotgun. Fake the quick hand off to TH as he crosses in front of JJ, then JJ fires out to the opposite side of the field to Toliver who had one on one coverage. Shake and bake for the TD.

That wasn't exactly Vanilla.

The intricacy and complexity of the slant (could have been a very skinny post) route is very underappreciated.

AS is the setup of using Trindon as a decoy. They ran that play twice before, but handed off to Trindon both times, this set up the TD by TT.

The only aspect of our offense that I really disliked was our obstinant insistence on running up the gut into a loaded box. I don't know if that is a reflection of Crowton or Miles.

Egg, Wash got burned by the scheme there and us setting them up earlier in the game. Lining up TH on the same side as Toliver and faking handoff the other way left no one but an undersized corner on the same side of the field as Toliver. That's quality play calling and execution.

Good to see them using TH as a decoy to open it up for the other guys.

I agree, good setup play.

maybe crowton is learning to use trindon as a decoy better?

man, that drove me nuts and literally to my bar. i had intended on watching that game sober so i could get a good handle on this years team. the first 7 times we did that we picked up 14 yds and had one fumble. i'm gonna again try my stone cold sober observation this week too. wonder how deep in the game it will last.

True however it is necessary to do some vanilla things early on to set up what you want to do later. I do think it was stubborn to play into washington's hands and run in the middle when they had 8 and 9 consistenly in the box.

Our WRs are a clear advantage for us against every team we will play this year. We have to get the ball to them more.

Let's use the pass to set up the run like Bill Walsh used to do to win 4 super bowls.

They got burned because they sent the corner on a blitz that JJ picked up on immediately and threw it to a wide open TT who didnt really even run a route, he just ran a few steps and turned around. Not really LSU's scheme so much as JJ recognizing and making a good play

I'm not looking at the play right now, but I recall that was simply a corner-blitz that Jefferson and Toliver recognized. Toliver cut off his route and Jefferson hit him before the safety could get there. The safety then missed the tackle. Don't see that it had anything to do with a fake hand-off. That corner wasn't reacting to any fake.

imagine how unsuccessful that play would have been if Miles had called it

Yea, somehow JJ saw it coming and told Toliver. Great recognition by him, and for such a young player.

Watch it again, the play had HOliday lined up next to JJ on the same side as Toliver. at the snap he cut in front of JJ as if he was going to take a handoff. Then JJ winged it out to TOliver.
