Schedule the championship game 2 weeks after the end of the regular season in the future. This would allow for makeup games to be played the week prior if the situation warrants. Just a thought.

We should first hire a commissioner with a spine and a brain

what impact does that have for bowl selections?

are there other championships played later than seccg now?

I agree.
It allows for schedule flexibility as hurricanes can impact games every year.

You have time with the playoffs not starting until Jan anyway, it would break up that long wait between games and most years if nothing happens everyone would have a bye before sec championship which might be good since most teams have end of the year rivalry games.

the NCAA would have to agree to push back bowl selections and playoffs selections a week as well for this to be possible

I agree because it would allow the SEC team that makes the playoff to remain sharp via a shorter layoff...

The SEC shouldn't have to have a contingency for Florida being stupid. All you have to do is have a rule saying if a team turns down a contingency for a threat to a game it knew about before the decision day (say Wed. at 5 or Thurs. or whatever), and the game is thereafter missed, the team has to forfeit the game. I guarantee Florida doesn't gamble if it knew it would forfeit.

You realize no other conference does this right?

The only reason this is an issue is because Florida is either incompetent or running from a fight.

LSU has finals the week after the SEC championship game. Will the players be allowed to practice during finals week?

No they shouldn't. Just fix this damn problem before it arises. Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, etc. aren't changing geographic locations anytime soon. The peak of Hurricane season Aug - Oct. isn't changing either. Instead of just "hoping" no conf. games are affected by weather, the SEC could, you know, be proactive and have a plan in case it does.

This is the second goddamn year we've had conference games affected by a significant weather event. Did any one of those morons think after USC/LSU last season "maybe we should come up with a plan?"

Set a deadline on when a decision has to be made. Have the SEC commissioner serve as the arbitrator between the two schools. Put contingency plans in place (even if you don't have to use them)

This situation was not that difficult to remedy. It may not have been the solution either party wanted, but at least it would have gotten the game in.

The only way the SEC could do this is if every team's "open date" was the week before the championship. Or for the SEC teams to start their season on 8/27 instead of 9/3. We have 13 weeks to play 12 games. Either do away with each team's "choice" of an open date, or start the season a week earlier. I like the idea though.

Knee-jerk reaction.

Commissioner just needs to grow a pair and play the game in question on Sunday or Monday.

exactly. Not a big deal. Just play the game Sunday or Monday, or move it to a neutral location.

Moving the SEC CG out a week is silly. The other conferences have their championship games the same weekend, and then the bowl selections are finalized. We can't bump our CG out a week just on the off chance a hurricane will disrupt our schedule.

Should be a clause that puts the 2 week wait into effect only if there IS a cancelled game. If no cancellations, game is held as usual.
