Talk yesterday was that Nebraska had been working with the Big XII on a backup plan

If you are going for Nebraska you may as well get UT.

I’m all for it. Nebraska is one team LSU needs several “Pay Back” games to catch up. I’m always at a loss to understand how Nebraska has fallen off the radar in terms of being in the mix of current blue bloods. I never understood why the Big 12 allowed the Oklahoma vs Nebraska rivalry fail. That used to be a huge rivalry. No reason Nebraska shouldn’t be one of the best teams in America every year. What happened there?

Hell yes, they would be a lot better than Missouri!

Only if they agree to wear their full shoulder stripes à la LSU and Ole Miss.

And I thought I was the only fan of full stripes on the jerseys. I think after the dust settles on who’s in and who’s out ,the SEC needs to reach out to the ADs of the schools that are wanting to play come hell or high water. They could sit down and set schedules including everyone. If they can’t get it done quickly I don’t think it’d be an issue starting late September or early October. That’s football time anyway. Depending on the start date, they could play into January. Might be some brutal weather games, but that’s football !!
I am assuming the SEC is playing, and this time frame shouldn’t drastically affect other Sports.

But is it a larger football watching population? New York has a huge population, but do Syracuse games get huge ratings? Do Missouri games get high ratings? (They might, I don't know the answer.)

Doesn't matter, they are paid by the number of instate subscribers. That's why the Big Ten added Rutgers, got all of New Jersey's cable subscriber money.

St Louis and KC are both larger populations than NOLA and each area loves sports. So YES.

ETA: ever heard of this little team called the Chiefs?

Nebraska? I mean, Missouri seems like it's odd and quite out of the way. Nebraska? They have zero in common with the SEC. Having Missouri and A&M both in the SEC already is weird enough.

Who gives a shite about a cultural fit at this point?

Yes, I've heard of the Chiefs. I live in the North East. There isn't a huge appetite for college football outside of Penn State. But huge viewership for pro football. NFL fandom does not automatically mean college football fandom, and vice versa.

I was asking a legitimate question about why Missouri was brought in to the SEC in the first place. I don't know how TV deals work for colleges.

But compared to LSU's ratings, Mizzou's ratings aren't good. Even compared to common opponents- Ark and Ole Miss, LSU's ratings were better. Even though Kansas City and St Louis are larger than New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

2019 College Football TV Ratings

But if a previous poster's comment about getting paid by the subscriber is correct, regardless of if anyone is watching (using the Rutgers example), then I understand.

Chiefs comment was snarky, but the question I was responding to was

But is it a larger football watching population?

And I answered that by saying the Missouri “football watching population” is higher than NOLA (and by default likely all of LA).
