I understand that the “nfl” players coming back will be decided in court next week yada yada yada
But can the SEC still punish the school and coaches?
Not really picking up on all this. Still blows my mind that season starts next Saturday and we are still pulling in players lmao

If they punish us they better punish every team that has a player playing because of a TRO in the league or there is no way they can justify it in any court anywhere.

Punished for what?
Courts said they were eligible, they recruited those players deemed eligible.
SEC implemented new rules post court decision that would punish teams if they field a team with ex NFL players who had previously signed a contract. LSU is going to follow the newly implemented rules.
What the frick are people talking about LSU getting punished?

Idk why you're being downvoted, because this is the same question I have. I don't think the SEC's ruling technically blocks the players from being able to play, but instead pushes things toward the school and coaches. I'm sure there's still a legal route for players to fight that, but I'm not sure if they can technically fight the SEC's ruling to invoke suspensions on coaches, enforce fines to programs, etc.

I believe the TRO that's been amended to include the SEC/Sankey applies to punishing institutions for rostering said players in the TRO. I'm no legal expert though, just something I've read.
I suppose it could be argued that if the courts deem these players eligible, any potential punishments threatened towards the school for rostering these players would in essence be harming the players since the schools, who would otherwise give them a spot on the team, no longer would be willing because of threat of punishment. So even though the threat is towards the school and not the player, the player is still the one that ends up suffering damages in the eyes of the court is what I'm assuming they're going to argue.

That's my thought and lots of others as well. Everyone play by the same rules. Level playing field. I have no problem with not getting these 2022 5 for 5 guys, but I'll be dam if another team in a different state be able to get them. Even worse is that any player who won a state suit after the NCAA denied them should not be able to play either (Chambliss). The key is a Level Playing Field. When this season is over, they really need to get ahold of all this nonsense and find a way to have some rules with teeth that the NCAA can enforce. It will take the conference commissioners and the school AD's to all be on board.

All the SEC has to do is delay implementation of their latest ruling until Sept 1, 2027 and the 4/4 players are not selectively punished by the new 5/5 ruling. The SEC/NCAA has little to no foresight in their rulings.
