SEC on CBS era to end after 2023 season

This is a very sad day for me.
The ABC/ESPN graphics have always been the worst (out of a possible four, but still the worst).
Also, you can’t beat the SEC on CBS theme song.

I think the CBS production was good quality.
What I won’t miss is CBS getting to move night games in DV to 2:30 afternoon kicks.
Maybe a new contract will prevent that & 11 AM starts also. ESPN has multiple networks & can show games opposite each other.

Yeah I’m gonna miss the 4 minute commercial breaks so a player can tie his shoe.

This is great news. Can you imagine the length of the commercial breaks with a 300 million $ deal compared to the current breaks with a $55 million deal. If they want to compete they have to shorten the commercials and get rid of Gary. He can do the Bama play by play on the Roll Tide Network. Brad is fine. Its more than just $. Its the experience of viewers and CBS is the worst.

Actually this is probably the only negative. I’m afraid we’ll see MORE 11 AM games since they have that slot available every Saturday.

With ABC/ESPN paying north if $300MM per season, they will be able to schedule games on Wednesday and Thursday without the league office having any sort of veto power

So we’re still pretending this is a thing. K.

Get ready to pay to watch LSU. Frick Disney.

The 2:30 game is not going away. Now having the second best SEC game of the week could mean playing at 2:30.
The best part of this is not having 5 hour long games.

There was something to be said for being the only game on the network, available nationwide. Don’t wanna see LSU and the SEC games going only regionally or moved around to less desirable times. Commercials are a fact of life unless u go PPV

ESPN is not going to put an SEC game on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. They might put an occasional game on Thursday night but that number has decreased in recent years. They have to be careful with that because they can’t dilute their inventory for Saturday SEC Network games. ESPN owns a piece of the SEC Network. And ESPN occasionally puts SEC games at 11 a.m. on Saturdays already.
What this really means is that ABC will be able to run SEC games in that 7 p.m. slot on some Saturday nights instead of showing Clemson beating some random ACC team by 50. Alabama-Auburn or any other “best SEC game of the week” that was in a 2:30 slot might show up at 7 on ABC

Here’s what I don’t understand:
CBS: Enjoyed their greatest year in CFB ratings in 1990.
Also CBS: Stopped airing CFB in 1991 (came back to air CFB in 1996).
CBS: In 2019, enjoyed their greatest year in CFB ratings since 1990.
Also CBS: Announces they are not renewing their contract with the SEC.
It’s like they want to get to the top of the mountain, but not stay there
Everything is going OTT and streaming. I enjoy OTA because I don’t have to plug in an HDMI cord to my TV every time I want to watch LSU Football. F*ck cable.

Guess it depends on what contract terms Skanky & the boys can negotiate.
The noon eastern time slot should be for B10 & ACC games.
The afternoon time slot should be for SEC teams not named LSU that traditionally play afternoon games. If LSU is the visiting team, will have to play in the afternoon.
LSU should absolutely be able to dictate home games at night. Probably won’t work that way, though.
Paging Scott W.

11 and 2:30 slots won’t be going away. Might actually increase. It just means the “best” game of the week will likely be at night.

I think CBS is betting their advertisers will pay more for a variety of sporting events vs. just the best CFB conference.
Their suits probably listen to those telling them “CFB isn’t that great”.
We’ll see how that works out for them.

CBS screwed the pooch many times with LSU. The only time LSU should play day games at home are for cupcakes. Every conference game at LSU should be played at night.
