It's a division in the overall landscape of college football. NFL has divisions that aren't divided...

I think the main scheduling principles are to ensure a quicker rotation through the entire league for all teams, and preserve historic rivals and have some geographic proximity for who a teams 3 defined permanent teams are.
Those are the underlying goals, but they are looking to maintain competitive balance and provide compelling game inventory for ESPN as well. They haven’t come out with any statements to that effect because they don’t want to limit themselves prior to getting a solution approved, but all the reports coming out of the discussions have indicated that.
I’m not disputing that Tennessee and Auburn are historically strong programs. It’s just that how good they were 50-75 years ago isn’t particularly relevant to competitive balance today. Tennessee is strong this year, but it’s really the first time they’ve been relevant in 15-20 years. That’s a very long period of decline to ignore in comparison to programs that have won multiple titles in the meantime. Auburn has a little stronger recent history, but it’s still not at the same level as LSU, Georgia, Florida or even Oklahoma.

You think the other conference schools are going to vote to give Bama an easier path to the title than the other top programs?

2001 team is in.
Prior to the SEC Championship game, LSU was ranked 21 in the AP and not ranked in the BCS ranking release. If the two teams with the best records played in the SEC Championship, it would have been a rematch of FL-TN. So no BOOM.

You think this is up for a vote?

This ruins seasons for middle of the pack teams. It is a bad idea meant only to help the top few.

You’re ignoring the fact that Bama will play Tenneseee and Auburn, two teams who have won national titles in the last 20+

Auburn has won a National championship and been to another this century. Tennessee won in 98 and is on the rise again.
Auburn, Tennessee, LSU would be the toughest draw out there. You’re delusional if you think Bama gets this

Is he talking sixteen teams and only conference?

Yes, I do. Any change like this requires approval by member institutions. Why do you think it’s taking so long to decide?

But Auburn, Georgia, LSU for Florida would be okay?

You don’t know that would be Floridas draw. You also act like life is fair.
Someone will get screwed and I promise you it won’t be Alabama

Before this year Tennessee has been irrelevant for 15-20 years. Auburn is up and down. Neither is anywhere near as consistently good as Georgia, LSU, Florida and Oklahoma have been in the present reality of what those programs are. It’s Bama’s choice to have two mid-level programs (relative to other programs in the new brutal SEC) as permanent opponents. That should not give them a free pass to avoid the strongest of the strong like everyone else at the top will have. If they want a bottom dweller, they’d have to give up Tennessee. Otherwise, yes, they’ll have a slightly tougher group of permanent opponents. They don’t get to choose to have it easier than the other regular contenders.

People that like this will hate it when 2 teams end up playing each other in back to back weeks for the conference title (currently Mizzou-Arky is the only cross division final week game)

I’m only going by what YOU predicted. It’s completely inconsistent for you to think that’s a reasonable draw for Florida, then turn around and say it’s impossible for Bama to have a draw that’s easier than that. Given this is going to be decided by a vote of member institutions, Alabama is actually the most likely to get the toughest draw, which isn’t unreasonable given they are the strongest program currently. The other schools certainly aren’t going to make it easier for them than everyone else.

Are you a communism fan? They are 100% keeping the rivalry games which include Bama/Tennessee and Bama/Auburn which are historically tough matchups and will be so in the future. So they will give Alabama Mississippi State for their easy game.
Oklahoma is not going to be a “top 6” team in the SEC.
The number one goal of the permanent opponents is maintaining yearly rivalries, not “fairness”. You’re so wrong on all this that it hurts

This is going to hurt Ole Miss' ability to hang banners...
