re: SEC leaning towards 1 division

I can't do all the math, but wouldn't it be feasible for a 2 or 3 way tie at the top of the conference between teams who did not play in the regular season? How will ties be broken?
I suppose if they keep the SEC-CG the top two would play, but what if it were three teams with same record who had not played.

And just why are they doing this? The 2 division approach has been pretty effective. It ain't broke...so why fix it??

Will this eliminate the SECCG?

15 years between some games. A&M has been in league over 11 years and still hasn’t visited some SEC east stadiums.

Won’t be Bama 100%
Don’t be so sure, we just had the highest rated ESPN game of the season with Bama. That talks more than anything we discuss here.

If every team is involved it can’t be called a “division”….

You’re pulling this top 6 requirement out of your arse
So you think Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida are going to sign off on a schedule that gives preferential treatment to Alabama and LSU? Auburn and Tennessee are going to go along with making things easier for Alabama? A&M, Ole Miss and Arkansas are going to approve advantaging LSU and Bama?

Not a fan of this. Rather the divisions and play it out, best team is SEC champions.

Each team could have their own custom setup
Custom setup? Vandy better get ready for a 15 game season every year. Every other team in the SEC will put them in their “custom” schedule.

Agree. Play 7 permanents in the division and rotate 2 from the other. Much cleaner than letting rankings determine top 2.
If we go that route, bring back the unbiased BCS computers Sagarin and the Colley Matrix. They were great to us in 2003 skipping over USC.

The way I’ve understood it, the eight top tier teams would have two other top tier permanent opponents and one bottom tier permanent opponent.
It would be reversed clearly for the bottom tier
My guess: top tier is Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas, and Tennessee….all have won National titles this century except Tennessee which won one in ‘98 I believe.
But also, other than LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia, each has had a prolonged period of irrelevancy this century.
In any case, if the tier concept is true, I hope the tiers can change over time. Since the cycle is a four year cycle, it would be cool if the changed every four years. That makes the permanent opponents semi-permanent I suppose.
LSU’s permanents are hard to predict I think. My best guess is a Texas school, a Mississippi school, and either Florida or Oklahoma

Who are you even making up in your mind as the “big 6”?
Bama, LSU, UGA, Auburn, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee? That’s 8.
Your “argument” is pathetic

I like it. Could be a little too easy though if Lane bolts, Sunbelt Billy is in over his head, and 3&7 doesn't find a way out of that horrendous contract (Thanks Scott W)
I still wish we would get Alabama every year though.

I swear some of y’all have battered wife syndrome. Why would you want to play a team that has a 55-27-5 record against us?
It’s ridiculous

How long before the SEC breaks up to become two eight team conferences. We can call one the Southwest Conference with Texas, Texas A & M, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, LSU, Ole Miss, & Mississippi State.
