A few funny ones here IE the "What would you say you do here?" category. Should Jimbo be in there with O and Saban since he won a natty or judging him off his work at A&M?

Here you go
quote:

Tier 1. The Elite Secret Society

Ed Orgeron (LSU). Coach O joined the ranks of the elite after leading LSU to an undefeated national championship season in 2019. His quarterback, Joe Burrow, won the Heisman Trophy and was drafted #1 overall by the Bengals. The 2019 LSU Tigers may very well be one of the great offensive teams in college football history and he has earned his seat at the coaching head table as it were.

Nick Saban (Alabama). Perhaps Mr. Saban deserves a category unto himself. Afterall, he is walking around with five national championship rings. Saban is the gold standard in college football coaching and likely deserves his own distinction…

I would leave Saban on his own in "Tier 1. The Elite Secret Society"

O needs one more dominant season IMO to start to become equals with Saban

I take the reference to Saban with five titles as a slight. Screw these guys.

It's funny to think most people on here thought O was the worst hire imaginable. And did for years.

Goes to show YOU DON'T KNOW shite. Let the professionals do their jobs!

I was one of the ones that was all in for it!

I liked the idea of having a head coach whose fundamental responsibility was recruiting, PR and managing two top tier coordinators who were in charge of implementing his overall philosophy.

I wasn't all in, but I also wasn't all out. I think a fan should trust the administration with hires, yet remain skeptical until proven worth. No matter who has been hired!

Too bad there's millions of fricking idiots though who think they know everything. I don't understand why fans think they know how to do these people's jobs. You wouldn't come to my work and pretend you know how to do my job, and vice versa. But when it comes to public figures, fans think they know EVERYTHING! It's a very strange social construct.

Alleva made some bad decisions while at LSU... But in fact, everyone reading this has made plenty of bad personal and career decisions in the last 11 years. It's called life. I agreed with him being replaced by Woodward, I just thought a change would be nice.. but my opinion doesn't fricking matter! Because I don't know how to do these people's jobs.

And fans say "Well I pay X, so I should get Y"

You don't pay for jack shite. And If you DO, LSU isn't the least bit concerned about your grass-cutting money. You're less than a drop of water in the pond.

Idk if I'm ready to put him on the list of elite coaches after 1 title. I'd only have Saban and Dabo on the list of elites right now (and Urban if he were active). Win more than 1 title and you're certainly an elite level coach. Would Chizik have been elite after the Newton Heisman/Championship season? Or Jimbo after Winston/Championship?

Again, not knocking O..I just thinking putting a coach on the list of elites after 1 title is a bit reactionary. A good coach with a talented team can win a championship (Chizik, Jimbo)...an elite coach does it again.

I was in the "Ok, I'll give him a chance." category. I'll admit I was hoping for a bigger splash hire though. Glad I was wrong.

I'll eat crow. O made some amazing hires, and brought in a kid that ended up being considered one of the GOAT QBs ever in the college game.

I actually was pretty disappointed with the hire but decided to take a wait and see approach. Meanwhile, this board became a cesspool of idiots pontificating how they were absolutely certain O would be the worst coach in LSU history. Arguing with these types, you'd have thought I was a big O fanboy but all I wanted was for the man to at least have his fair chance.

There appear to be four six distinct coaching tiers in the league at the present time.

Well, that's pretty sloppy editing and proofing.

He barely beat an Auburn team that was literally 6-7 plays away from a 4 loss season to win his lone NC.....

I don’t get the Jimbo love, especially with the way he left FSU in shambles. Worst record at FSU in 40 years......but nobody wants to acknowledge that for some reason.....hell they had to reschedule a rent a win to be bowl eligible his last year there....

In addition to winning the title last year, Coach O has won against the best teams. I am trying to remember, but I think it is something like 12 - 3 against top 10 teams while at LSU.

You win a national championship to you are in the category of an elite coach plain and simple. There are only 6 active coaches with national championships.

I’m not even a big Jimbo fan and Les’s and Mack’s time has passed but both of them are still elite head coaches in my opinion.
