Correct. You weren't required to pay sales tax on tickets in prior years.

Frankly I'm glad the exemption is gone. Easy enough for me to say though since i don't have season tickets.

The roll back of the exemption was passed with a 2 year sunset period. Thanks for not knowing anything about what you're talking about.

Sorry. Thanks for the correction. But you don't have to be a complete jackass about it.

You made a positive statement that was false. You deserve to be treated in a curt manner.

I guess you and I just treat people differently.

was stunned, back in the day they just stamped your LSUID and let you in. Those must have been the good ole days

In those good old days the University charged an athletics fee so every student paid for admission whether they went or not.

Of course. But don't be naive. Do you really think the government is going to give up that large chunk of change once they start getting it?

The avg. cost of season tickets is ~$392 (not including TAF fees). A 5% tax on that amount = $19.60. Multiply that by ~75,000 season tickets sold and you get ~$1,470,000 in tax revenue. Do you really think the legislature is going to let ~$1.5 mill go away?

No but what was the point behind the exemption to begin with? How is tiger football any different than any other consumed product?

Well, considering that many taxes and tax exemptions sunset under Jindal, which greatly contributed to the predicament we are in today, I guess I do believe that the government will allow your handout EXEMPTIONS to sunset as well.

Why WOULDN'T tickets to a sporting event be subject to sales tax?

This is how i look at it too. I'm not blaming the state of our economy on tiger football exemptions but it's just one example of something that makes you scratch your head and say "huh?".

I would be interested to hear how it is handled in other states to see if the exemption was somewhat standard. I can't say that I've paid a lot of attention to it, but it seems like when I've bought tickets from other schools or for professional games the additional costs were usually processing fees or shipping and taxes weren't noted. But maybe I overlooked them or the listed ticket price was already grossed up.

In states that don't exempt ticket sales from sales tax, the face value will show the amount of tax included. For example, a $60 tax will show $57.14 for the ticket, and $2.86 sales tax.

In my good old days, we paid the athletics fee and for football tickets. All other sports were free to get in.

Just pulled a few away game tickets from 2012 & 2013:

Auburn - $85 (ADM 77.98 Tax 7.02)
Georgia - $75 Tax Incl.
Florida $70 & Arkansas $55 have no mention of tax on their ticket.

Looking at images online, Missouri doesn't mention tax on their stub. South Carolina "Price includes taxes and bond fees."

Let me get this straight... You consider the government not taking money from me a handout?

It's called liberal math.

Not really. Everyone realizes that taxes are a necessity. I'm not liberal but I find it odd to exempt sales tax on something like football tickets. A consumable item that is in no way a day to day necessity.
