Another person with the Saints. Said Brady is young & green but he’s a lifer. He can put together a game plan if he has to

Gonzales was with Meyer at Bowling Green, Utah, and Florida. Then OC or co-OC with Mullen at Miss St and now Florida again.
He wasn't calling the playing in any of those stops, just like nobody who comes from the Saints has called plays for the Saints. Dan Mullen and Urban Meyer call their own plays.

Is there ANY doubt that Gonzales would have installed a solid passing game if Miles hadn't been so damn stubborn?
There is plenty of doubt, but this is exactly the point. Yes, Miles WAS stubborn. But guess what? So is Orgeron. We're being sold a bill of goods, all over again, just like we were with Miles, and just like we were with Orgeron, when he brought in Matt Canada. Whether you think Matt Canada is a jerk or not, that dude has had success as a play caller, everywhere he's been. But Orgeron would not get out of his way.
I'll say it yet again, that I hope this time is different.

I wonder how much success he's currently having from his couch.

Continuing to try to pass yourself off as some OSU guy that only follows LSU due to Burrow is just cringeworthy at this point.
Get a life you fricking nerd

Brady did recently say that Payton isn't the smartest guy in the room over there...
Payton may be retaliating.

He's on his coach because he inherited a horrendous situation last year, and Maryland was just looking to clean the slate, regardless of what Canada did or did not do.
He took over a dumpster fire there and turned them into a good offense. Perhaps you have some kind of useful information you can bring to the table?

Hires a young guy with barely any experience to train the OC who’s so passed up by the game that he needs a tutor just to semi-modernize the offense.

Perhaps if you had something relevant concerning the topic of the thread to bring to the table you could make a judgment on what's useful here or not.

quote:What the frickl? He said he was a good guy to have on staff , it doesn’t sound to me like he struggled the words there
Also said he was good with the RPOs and such. Sounded to me like Sean Payton was kind of struggling to find words to say about Brady.

Mornin Ben - what is your understanding of the role of a passing game coordinator, more specifically of Brady in Slinger’s offense? Is he sort of like a Co-OC? Drawing up route trees? Just installing some RPO elements? A 2nd set of eyes in the film room?

Calling plays and installing an offense are two completely different jobs. Gonzales had been with Meyer for 9 years when he arrived at LSU. He helped design the passing elements of the Read/Option offense. He certainly could have installed the R/O if Miles had allowed it.
And Meyer has NEVER called the offense. He has always had at least 3 coaches on the headphones to discuss plays. Meyer had veto power, but generally went with the OC or co-OCs. Until '19, when Day demanded autonomy - and Day got it until he fricked up the Purdue game - and daddy took his T-Bird away.

WTF? I could see why Sean might struggle finding something positive to say if this is true.

quote:Yeah, two HOF QB's that play for some of the best coaches make it look easy, so Joe Brady should be able to do it with some college players.
Tom Brady and Brees
You keep talking about the Saints offense with Brees. Last year the saints had a HOF QB, two of the best OT's in the league(one pro bowler), the best RB combo, and one of the top WR's. All of that with one of the best offensive coaches in the past 35 years. So excuse me for not thinking Brady is going to walk in and make LSU look similar to the saints.

Ok. Context is very important.

quote:Meyer has said play calling is a group effort dozens of times. The only times I've heard him say otherwise is after a loss - then he takes full responsibility for play calling. [Um... except for the Purdue fiasco]
Dan Mullen and Urban Meyer call their own plays.

Pro tip: Short quick passes are far easier to complete than long slow-developing passes.
Close to 80% of Brees' completions are less than 10 yards. About 65% are under 5 yards.

If our OL isn't better than last season, very little of all this stuff comes to fruition.
That is true no matter what offense you run.

Probably not. It will be different than last years though.
