Man defense is too taxing

This says to me thst they are not done recruiting dbs.

If we can get more Elias ricks and hit on some three stars like flott, aranda will be able to play man more.

I assume going forward, that of the 25 scholarships 13 or 14 will have tii on go to defense.

I’m also sick and tired of seeing our Heisman candidate in the game in the 4th quarter against teams that aren’t gonna be bowl eligible because our 2.5 million dollar coordinator can’t stop an 18 year old running a read option.

This is good and insightful. You should write articles on college football.

Former Tigers like Jacob Hester said LSU has been forced to play more zone defense than ever before because man defense is too taxing if LSU’s offense is going to insist on these multiple two-minute scoring drives.

I love Jacob Hester but honestly, I don't want to hear a guy who has continually defended Les Miles offensive system criticize one of the best offenses that college football has ever seen.

Opinion: DENIED

I agree the defense is not good right now, but reality is alot of factors are playing into it. Depth, injuries, lack of focus at times and some blame does in fact lie on the coaches. Look at each game we gave up big points and see that we held opponents to 10 or less that first half. You can say adjustments were made but Im not sure its 100% that either. We held Florida to 7 in 2nd half after giving up 21 in the first. A month off before the playoffs will absolutely be huge in getting this defense back to being at least respectable.

Also, Bama's offense scored 29 last year and 34 this year on our defense so its not the best example to use for a regression.

Sorry but man or zone doesn’t make you take shitty angles and not wrap up.

It doesn’t matter if it’s man or zone if Patrick Queen fills the wrong gap and lazily lets the QB run right by him.

It doesn’t matter if it’s man or zone if Delpit can’t put a finger on a guy that runs a post route in front of him.

Check my post history I haven’t went at the defense at all in over a month but I’m sick and tired of them using the offensive success as a reason they can’t be half arse decent.

I’m also sick and tired of seeing our Heisman candidate in the game in the 4th quarter against teams that aren’t gonna be bowl eligible because our 2.5 million dollar coordinator can’t stop an 18 year old running a read option.

Offense shouldn’t slow down. Defense needs to catch up. This lack of effort, complacency, piss poor technique and bad play calls falls at Arandas feet. He has to be better

Defense obviously has work to do. To me it's more of a consistency issue than scheme and such. At times, we absolutely shut teams down. Almost every game has stretches where the defense played lights out.

It's almost like the defense isn't mentally prepared all game. Past years with the slow ball control inconsistent offenses that we had the team had to rely on the defense to win games, now with a high powered offense the defense gets sloppy.

The difference between a 3 minute TD drive and a 3 and out is the TD. Mentally it's not on the defense to win the game, just to slow them down enough to keep the lead. But every game we either get a big lead then the defense gets sloppy and let's the other team back in the game, or the defense starts out sloppy then adjusts and shuts the opponent down the rest of the game.

I'd love to see us dominate all game just like everyone else, but I see enough good from this defense to be confident that they will step up when needed and the team can get it done.

Not for nothing, but this thread reminds me of a teenage girl complaining about the floor mats of her BMW that daddy bought her for graduation.

Just fricking win the game.

Hmm... I'm SURE there weren't people who were concerned about LSU's one dimensional offense in 2011, while the Tigers were "ranked #1 in the nation". And when that problem lead to being shut out in the championship game, I'm CERTAIN that no one complained, because LSU had been "ranked #1 in the nation".

If your day is ruined by an observation that any honest person can see, then maybe it's best not to participate in forum which may contain opinions and observations that don't align with yours. Perhaps you can shout in the mirror how awesome everything is.

I'm enjoying the heck out of this season. That doesn't mean I don't have concerns about something that might ruin it. If LSU can simply play like a top 25 defense, they are golden.

Sorry man but the defense is decent hate to make you frown ! If you don’t like it eat a turd muffin! Our defense will make stops when they need to have all year long. So tired of reading comments like this one. I’m sorry but the defense is decent at her you like it or not.

Why is it that LSU's offense put up zero points, and had multiple three and outs last year, but the defense held Alabama's high powered offense under 30,

More depth.

We held their “high powered offense” to 7 points in the first half this year and only 14 through 3 quarters. Last year they were up 16 to 0 by half and 22-0 by the 3rd.
It wasn’t until the 4th quarter of this years gane that Bama started scoring. Did the players forget to play all of a sudden? Did Aranda forget how to call plays all of a sudden? Or was it the more likely scenario, that they were just gassed by the 4th quarter because we can’t rotate players properly due to lack of depth?

The Alabama game isn’t an anomaly. Texas was the same way except they started scoring often the half. Well shock of all shocks, it was a much hotter day AND we had players injured in the first half.

If you watch the games analytically, it’s clear as day that when this defense is fresh, they can play hard and get stops but as time goes on, they get tired as start making mistakes

It is not like we don’t have the talent to be in the top 25 either

This is the part that worries me. I understand the arguments about the effect a prolific offense can have on a defense, but that might mean the defense is 25th instead of 5th in the nation, not 44th. I think the defense will play better when it has to, but all the big plays being allowed are definitely a concern.

I'm curious what the national champion offense finished the season ranked. I won't have time to go look at it today, but I'll take a look this week or maybe tonight and compare some numbers.

I’m Solo Cam on this though not as mad about it. While there is some truth to the excuse of the offense, it does not explain losing gap control and mental lapses.

I was defending the defense all year up until last week. Last week like I said I got off the Aranda train. Sorry, that was horrendous. Thank god we do have the offense we do. Because if not that would have been ugly. And yes Ohio State is doing it against Juco teams, basically the same as the Arkansas and Ole Miss's of the world right now. Whether it be injuries, lack of motivation, scheme, anything, that falls on the coach, and the defensive coordinator is Aranda. I am sorry, it is his job to get them in line with the right personnel week to week ready to play.
