Madking...You have an opinion that could very well prove to be correct. We'll see right? Is it possible however that this guy will excel in this position while maybe lackluster in his former role? Spagnola had terrible defense in N.O. and got fired. He coached in the Super Bowl this year. PGC in my mind, is normally a teaching position and not a play-calling one. This guy has a wealth of knowledge on how to teach the game and I submit to you that maybe he can succeed as such.

They aren't bringing a former NFL head coach to remake an offense for only 800K a year. Calm down people

I can promise you that 99% of the people trashing this hire no next to nothing about this man...including you! It's just a lazy take to say that he's a bum because he's not a sexy "name". That's all this is about!

or we just so happen to be fans of a team he coached for and watched him single handedly blow games for years with dog shite play calling. he won’t be calling plays so maybe it won’t matter, but i just feel like we could have found someone that fit our offense better. he’s not a spread guy whatsoever

I love this boards logic.

Linehan is going to suck as PGC because they can look up per game stats on ESPN.com for teams that he was the OC or HC for.

Never mind the fact that his responsibilities here as the PGC will be much different from the OC, much less the HC.

Of course it is and I’ve repeated that it’s not some huge blow to us or anything like that. But nothing he’s done has proven to be very good and his style especially contradicts what our offense was about last season. But he could help I just think it’s crazy to attack people that are confused about the hire and are pointing out his shortcomings.

Well that’s a strawman argument so I can see why you’d be confused.

why? His previous PGC hire was amazing, but he's not exactly batting a thousand with hirings even while at LSU.

my main concern is that he’s never been involved in an offense that’s anything like ours. his concepts were very outdated

This is an Alpha hire. The offense is installed and Ensminger knows it backwards and forwards as does the qb he will be handing the keys to. Now we have a guy who has a ridiculously good resume, can help the receivers, has called NFL games, has the brain to keep the offense on the rails, etc.

Acknowledging that all hires are a risk of sorts, this looks like a tremendous hire. Of course this place will melt anytime there is adversity or uncertainty.

Is he an RPO guy. Doesn't seem like it. If he can't continue what we started then why hire him. I need to do some research but on the surface this is not a good hire.

He's a PGC. Give him a break. He won't be moving Coach E out of his office. He's there to help.

And his last DC came from the previous staff and he only manages to hire Pelini? Yikes.

It’s football. Even the most innovative things in today’s game have been around 100 years.

You know the drill on here...It's ready-shoot-aim. This guy doesn't fit the template created by Brady and people immediately wig out. Had we been hiring him as OC then maybe the pushback would be warranted. Last year was so perfect that everything associated will be held at an exalted level, and rightfully so. Two years ago if we would've hired this guy as PGC, people's perspective would be completely different IMO. Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt it.
