Going to be a packed house. Jalen Cook (LSU signee) vs Reece Beekman (Virginia signee). Should be a great one just like last 2 years. If you don’t have plans tonight and want to see a great game and the future LSU point guard, come on out. Also Brian Thomas, top 100 receiver for 2021, plays for Walker. He’s already been offered by Florida and A&M in basketball but football will be his sport.

Should be a huge game.

Beekman got owned by Cook last year. Cook went for 30+ and Beekman had like 17 point son 20 something shots.

I was there at Scotlandville and Cook was unstoppable. Scored 38 against Beekman.

Walker's new gym is unbelievable. Should be a GREAT basketball atmosphere. I think Scotlandville beats them by 10.

This may be a dumb question but why is Cook rated so low nationally? Is he super underrated? Size?

I think he is super underrated. The fact of the matter is that national ranking in basketball now has very little to do with how you perform in your HS season (especially at a school that does not play an elite schedule like Walker) and everything to do with how you play in the summer. Most top kids play on one of three summer leagues that are run by sneaker companies (Nike EYBL, Adidas Gauntlet, and the Under Armour Association). Reece Beekman, who is the state's highest ranked player in 2020 played for a team based out of Wisconsin (where he is originally from) called Phenom U which plays in the EYBL (the most highly regarded of the 3 leagues). Phenom U featured a top 10 national prospect in the class of 2020 (Jalen Johnson), a top 3 national prospect in the class of 2021 (Patrick Baldwin), and a few other top 50 to top 100 recruits (Jaemyn Brakefield, Jamari Sibley). Reece was the starting PG but he was never asked to do much scoring because of the other guys. This team was a national powerhouse in 2018 and 2019 and Reece was rewarded (deservingly so) with a high national ranking. Jalen Cook played for the Louisiana Elite in the UAA. He had an almost entirely different situation. LA Elite had almost no other top recruits on the team so Jalen was basically the star but the LA Elite didnt win a whole lot so I feel like Jalen went relatively unnoticed. He still had some great games against some of the best players in the country (He had 20 in a win against top 10 recruit Jalen Suggs) but the LA Elite never had much buzz and Cook fell under the radar. I also feel like because Cook is obviously on the shorter side and he excelled on the football field as well people assumed his future lied on the gridiron. But Jalen seems intent to play basketball primarily in the future. I still think Cook deserves to be in the top 100 at least (even with a relatively strong PG class in 2020). Cook reminds me a lot of Jared Butler who went to Riverside and is now a star for Baylor. Butler is a little tallee but both are excellent shooters who can get to the rack and facilitate as well. I think Cook will be an excellent 3-4 year player for LSU and will be an all-SEC type guy at some point as well.

I'm really ignorant to College B Ball recruiting but why is Beekman getting out of Baton Rouge ? Did Wade not want him ?
