that being said he and guaranty are raising the bar for local sports talk, so for that I applaud them

Agreed, but Matt is the best of the local guys IMO.

However, if anybody thinks BR sports radio sucks, just drive through Lafayette and listen to that crap.

Accurate Depiction of Lafayette sports talk.

Host: "Lots to talk about today, March Madness coming up. NFL draft around the corner. MLB starting. College baseball in full swing."

Host: "Let's take some calls."

Caller(in goofy cajun accent): "Uh, yes. Can you tell me if the Lady Cajuns softball game will be on the raido this week?"

Next caller (in goofier cajun accent): "Uh, when do the Astros start the season?"

Third caller: "Is the ULL baseball game on TV tonight?"

Fourth caller: "Did Northside beat Carencro in basketball last night?"

Listen to Matt about everyday. He's got a great show with awesome guests and pretty good news/insight to. Sometimes he can say stuff I think is stupid/disagree with but it's his show.

Whoever said he tries to be like Cowherd sometimes you're right and I wish he wouldn't.

pretty much agree with everything said in this thread.

freak had a sack, not to mention running the ball up the middle was pretty limited all day with all the big runs busting outside. not sure how you can really say any interrior DL was a disapointment.

scona also said our baseball team is "insanely talented" yesterday.

oh .. I totally agree with you .. he's (scone) better than anyone on the air here sports wise -- ott included .. scone still seems hungry .. ott's content with 24 restaurants paying $150 a month to flash their logos on his tv replay ...

Mascona also corrected himself by saying he understand why they didnt look good and he expects them to completely different players at the beginning of the season.

I like the show, im usually pretty busy and driving alot so its nice to listen about lsu sports while driving since I cant be reading TD while driving

I thought Freak looked good. He would have decapitated Jefferson on that sack, and he continually establishes himself 2 yards in the backfield whether he makes the play or not

I agree with that. Moscona doesn't really know what he is looking at. He is just a talking head.

I like his show better than the 1210 garbage but his knowledge of sports in general isn't impressive. He clearly just reads what others write online and never forms an actual opinion worthy of airtime. If he didn't have connections to insider websites he would basically be reading the Rant on air.

What makes some of you say his sports knowledge is average?

Just out of curiosity, I've heard Scona say on his show that he played football at Catholic High and that he had an opportunity to play football at a smaller division college. I have a friend that went to Catholic with Scona and he told me that he never played football there, and that he is full of it when he says that on his show. Anybody know the truth? I personally can't see Scona saying on the air that he played football at Catholic if he really didn't. I would think somebody would have called him out by now. I know this is irrelevant but was just wondering.

Interesting question. I seriously doubt he would claim that if it weren't true.

+1

He has the best overall radio show in BR.
He does not have the best sports opinions in BR.

For example, i find his opinion of the BCS and bowl system to be annoying. It's as if he is on the payroll.

And "Around the SEC"=what did I find on the SEC rant this morning.

He played at Catholic with me, 1996-2000. Great guy, both as a person and as a talk show host. If it's your job to talk for hours every day, you're gonna say some stupid stuff, sometimes just to get people talking. I can promise you everyone complaining on here would sound like a total dumbass on the radio.

so sports opinions are only "good" if you agree with them?

I like his show, but probably because I'm not used to hearing all LSU talk, but the guests are the best part.

OK I have been listening allot to BR radio or LSU radio this week and i still cant find the best shows. I listen to Scona allot.
I texted him and told him the Freak will out play and out start Downs, Scona said it would be Logan, I like Logan but Freak was going against the 1s.
What I cannot understand iust how half the guys have a show, I mean none of them are ex athletes, and all i envision is some fat dude putting down Po Boys talking about football, shite i do that everyday and I want a show!.

yeah 1210 seems to be hanging by a thread. Ott and Songy must work for food and they have no variety. Same callers same co hosts that don't know anything.

Scona is at least trying. I thought Ego was getting blown out a bit but then he got into it as time wore on. Not to mentiong those two were going against our 1's. I think they did well all things considered.
