Are any of the players required to take martial arts classes that teach leverage on your opponents?

One of their Td plays, the receiver went in motion to the right, Our db follows him. Their TE and WR go straight and take out 3 of our defenders on a simple route, including the db trailing who just runs right into them. Wide open td

Per Lonn Sullivan:

“LSU Freshman LB Whit Weeks was relegated to the bench until the Tigers' defense had already allowed 28 points. Once he came on the field, he became the team's highest rated defender by PFF College, made 9 tackles (8+ in all 3 starts), 1.5 TFLs, 2 QB Hits & 6 total stops (negative plays caused by tackle).”
Ronnie milsap could've seen this coming. As soon as the put a half hobbled speights back on the field I cringed

I'm a staunch believer in rugby style tackling. Break the plane and drive through, and most important... WRAP UP!

eta: Forcing players to wrap up (via penalty otherwise) would eliminate a majority of illegal dangerous tackles and targeting.

Rugby style tackling is being taught as the primary tackling style, should be at least, it's just safer. Leaving your feet is appropriate if you are behind the ball carrier, diving to save a touchdown, or other instances, where you leave your feet, wrap and roll.

Yes. You're correct on that. And I guess they do lots of diving when out of position and constantly chasing the play.

bullshite. This isn't the 1950s.

A high percentage of successful teams are not boxing their defense. To the contrary, defenses are spilling.

It is precisely what Aranda preaches: spill and kill.

bullshite, I said in tackling, didn't say anything about or boxing or spilling. Tackling and deciding whether you are going to box or spill on a block, are 2 totally different things. When tackling the ball should stay on your inside shoulder and in front of you at all times. Again, I am talking about tackling the person with the ball, not taking on a block.

What do you think boxing and spilling are?

You can't spill if defenders are keeping the ball inside and in front at all times. It's the whole point of spilling. And I can pretty much guarantee that every team spills on some plays.

Boxing and spilling are ways you take on blocks, not tackling technique. I think you are excited that you know some football terms. If you are a box team or you a going to box a block, the defender takes on the blocker with his inside arm and foot up and the object is to force the ball carrier to cut back inside. The box players job is to not let anything outside of him. If you are a spill player or spilling a block, you are doing the exact opposite, you are taking on the inside part of the blocker, and forcing the ball carrier to the outside, or to bounce the ball outside. I just want to reiterate, that I am talking about tackling the ball carrier when I say inside and in front, not taking on blockers or how to play certain runs.

Boxing and spilling are not just about how a player takes on a block. It's about how a defense fits and schemes to stop runs.

Rule #1 in spilling: the only part of the defense that never misses a tackle is the sideline.

You keep editing your posts.

It looks like you are learning about boxing and spilling while you are posting.

My man, you could not be more wrong. I am editing my post to make it clear to you what I am saying. You are confusing how to play a block, with tackling a ball carrier.
