Savion Smith?

What was the reason that he transferred?
I heard Hanigriff say something about that Alabama plays by a different set of rules than LSU. What was he referencing here that he wouldn't say on the air directly.

he didn't exactly transfer. He didn't make grades and had to go to JUCO

We suspend kids for smoking dope. Bama (allegedly) looks the other way.

LSU has a compliance department that keeps the coaches in check and actually tries to follow the rules. Saban works hard to keep compliance away from his program.

Failed drug tests.
Plus he had to go juco because he would not have been academically eligible

No, he exactly transferred. He was here for a year then went to JUCO. That's a transfer.
If he didn't make the grades he never would have been here in the first place.

I think what he means is it wasn't exactly voluntary. He was no longer welcome on the team.

he wasn't eligible to play. if you want to call it a transfer, fine, but the OP made it sound like he was simply unhappy and transferred to Alabama. Kid would not have been able to continue being apart of the football team whether he wanted to or not.

just because you qualify out of high school doesn't mean you maintain eligibility throughout your career. You have to continue to make grades in college, which he did not.

Don't down vote, this is the correct answer. When Saban was at LSU h"e would not allow Bahnsen anywhere near the football program. See quote from his bio at LSUsports.net.
"Returning in 2009 to serve the department in the Compliance Office, Bahnsen is once again proving to be a very versatile member of the athletic department.
Before moving back to Compliance, Bahnsen served the previous five years, in a valuable role as Associate Athletics Director for Internal Relations, overseeing the ticket office and all customer service operations.
Prior to December of 2003, Bahnsen’s primary responsibility for the previous 14 years was to serve as LSU’s NCAA compliance officer."

His suspension was not linked to academics.

I think it is more like LSU's compliance dept keeps the coaches in check. Saban uses his compiance dept to find ways around the rules.

his suspension was never publicly linked to anything specific. But when a player is set to presumably start and then ends up in Juco, it's generally due to eligibility issues. I'm sure he had other issues as well given he was suspended in game 1 of his freshman season. But he is very comparable to Rashard Robinson. He didn't seem to want to follow the rules he needed to follow to remain a part of the team. Fortunately, Nick Saban doesn;t care much about things like that and has made Alabama the new Last Chance U

Entitled Pot Head. Refused to work hard and put team first.

I think he meant that Savion Smith likes the Mary Jane, and Alabama has shown that they are more forgiving of their players partaking in that product.

Marijuana is the word I've always heard about him.

Somebody please present some facts that he failed multiple or any drug test
Maybe he wanted out for a better opportunity to get on the field.
