I was coming on here to post something similar.

The key is donating to LSUs endowment. TAMUs endowment is through the roof.

Then hiring a good coach is an afterthought because the university is not fighting a perception issue regardless of how we know funding works.

In the case of Bama, their out of state student population exceeds in state by a wide margin, thus the funding of the university. If you go back to 2004, they started the push, but it wasn’t until 2007 did they really have upticks in this area where it has risen steadily since. Their growth has been unprecedented.

Hiring a great coach is an investment in your school.

Cudos to the Aggies for taking a step in a seemingly right direction. Time will tell. If it does work for them, I’m moving from Houston because there is no worse fan base in college sports in terms of arrogance.

You're dumb.

He's developed QBs and won national championships with them. If you think jimbo is overrated than you are a moron.

This is fricking hilarious considering PR is a big reason Orgeron was hired. It certainly wasn’t based on resume and earning the job

I was thrilled with the Saban hire. Yes there was negativity but Les sucked the life out of the program and the fan base. I never wanted him to be coach but you soldier on. He squandered some great talent. Not thrilled with hiring O but other than the Troy loss I don’t have any great criticisms so far. He can’t make Etling a good quarterback and Les left him with a depleted team. He gets his four years to improve the program or his gone. Alleva should be gone by then.

Not defending Bebe hire it is simply water under the bridge.

We are just getting a national Rep for being an overly negative fan base. That is new and has never been associated with LSU fan base I can recall in last 50 years or so.

Drunk fanbase, rowdy, enthusiastic, etc yes.
Negative nannies no. Our fanbase has almost been a great asset.

if i remember correctly saban had a 32-28 record at mich state when we hired him, very far from a coach with a dominating win record

and les miles was about the same if not closer to 50/50 record when we hired him

exactly, now after they did that, then i think he decided he wasnt going to play games coming to LSU With this administration still making the decissions and its hard to blame him if he was thinking this way

Jimbo was signed, sealed and almost delivered for 6M a year, until fricking FKA stepped in and nixed the deal.

Budget Cuts and Public Perception BS, then Jindal stepped in and went to bat for Les to get another year.

Game over.

Nary a word of protest from the Mediocrity Accepting LSU fan base either.

That's the way the cookie crumbles. We'll get em next year. Geaux Tigers. Geaux Les. Rah Rah Rah.

God damn some of you people are dumb, Saban was seen as a future NFL coach while at Michigan State, the dude took over the program on probation and turned them around with scholarship limits. Same with Les taking over a program coming off sanctions.

People were ELATED when LSU hired Saban, the media praised the move as LSU was seen making a great move. I'm not sure why some of you repeat this inaccurate information.

Wrong, shithead.

Nick Saban was respected for his disciplined approach and there was a positive feeling of cautious optimism at his hiring.

After his first press conference, most were very happy he was coach of the Tigers. He impressed from the start and the feeling was we’d definitely hired the right coach.

But hey, like most O-pumpers, you make shite up as you go.

yep and you just proved to be one of the dumbest

saban wasnt even seen as a "great" college coach back then, in fact he wasnt even thought of that highly by other coaches at all and most of the "experts" thought LSU should have held out to find a better candidate to hire

their records are what they were and that is all i said so your little hisssy fit doesnt change what their win-loss records were when LSU hired them

Sagan was seen as one of the hottest young coaches in the country at the time, and was the son of Lou Saban, a respected NFL coach of many years.
Emmett went for a big time hire and had to pay more than many folks thought wise.
Emmett was right, as he was on many things.

WTF are you talking about you retard, he was seen as a future NFL coach, when LSU nabbed him this was praised across the board.... Man some of you people like to make up some shite

Saban said he had two previous offers to leave Michigan State -- from the New York Giants and the Indianapolis Colts. But he did not consider leaving until LSU called.

''Everywhere I turned his name kept coming up,'' athletic director Joe Dean said. ''He's a high visibility guy from a good program who had a great season. I think what we saw there is what we'll see here but to the next level.''

quote:

One thing you have to understand: Unlike many fans at that time, the Spartans knew it was pointless to cheer against Saban. They had seen him every day. They knew he was a football genius. Sometimes Saban could tell what play an opponent would run before it broke the huddle, just by substitution patterns. His knowledge of the game seemed boundless, his enthusiasm for it endless. There was no way Saban was going to fail.

speak for yourself. I followed him since our matchup in the independence bowl and was very excited to get him and shocked that we were able to as he really had gotten it going at Michigan state

You are correct on how Saban was viewed.

You are wrong on this. Nick Saban is no relation to Lou.

And I guess Lou was “respected,” but he wasn’t anything more than a journeyman coach.
