I believe when Bama hired him they believed it would lead to the demise of the golden era of LSU football.
quote:Good post. I would agree with this completely.
I can assure you this was NOT the reasoning. We had gone through ten years of poor coaching hires and NCAA issue. We wanted a coach that would make us competetive once again in the SEC, period.
We lucked into Saban after Rich Rod agreed to the job then backed out. It was simply chance that Saban did not enjoy his NFL experience and in fact regretted the decision. Bama fans pretty much concur had the LSU job been open at that time he would have certainly returned.
If anything it was auburn and UT that were the biggest sore for us. No offense or disrespect for LSU but I don't think LSU alone was the driving force.

What has happened instead is they created the most compelling rivalry in college football that has now taken the LSU program to new heights. Record stadium attendance, national record TV ratings and exposure the LSU program would not have been capable of.
In Hind sight, the BAMA hire of Saban, has created a good bit of publicity for LSU.
HOWEVER, I dont think that the guys over at BAMA gave LSU a second of thought at that point in time. I believe that the fallout has Helped us, as this thread states. I do not think they Intended to bring down LSU, but rather bring themselves up to our Level.

A Bama 'dynasty' is NEVER beneficial to LSU.
Yup. A job killer. If Cholly Mac was still alive he would agree with you wholeheartedly.

I know but it's hard to really count Saban's 2007 team as anything more than a building project. And while Bama is poised to win the West again and may win a third frickin NC, we are stuck with another 2 loss season at minimum and just hoping for a Sugar bid.

Psychdeli Tide,
Thank you for acknowledging that your team like all teams went thru a dark period where you all chose poor coaches and had NCAA issues. I swear you are the first Bama fan to even acknowledge that Bama has a 10 year down period. To talk to Bama fans, none of that even happened. No Dubose, no Francione, no Price, no problems! All teams have their ups and downs and most will acknowledge it, but you are the first Bama fan who will admit, that Bama went through a bad time when the Tide wasn't all that and a bag of chips!

Asking sports fans not to use bad analogies, acronyms and nicknames for things is like asking Colin Cowherd and Mitt Romeny to take a side and stick with it.

we have had an excellent program, by all objective measures the second best in the SEC in the last 10 years
You think Florida has been the best program over the last 10 years? I'm not sure LSU hasn't been the best program in the SEC in the last 10 years, at least as a Bama fan I have felt a better chance of winning the games against UF moreso than LSU

I bet you also believe the earth is flat....
BTW: Saban was hired away from Miami, not L S Who???

This is how you can tell how successful we have been. Just another 2 loss season and maybe a Sugar Bowl thrown in.

I hope this is a joke,if not it may be the single most retarded statement ever posted on this site.

Yeah, OP, you right, bro.

Alot of you seem to be misunderstanding the main point of the thread. The competition is what is driving LSUs current success. Some of you are assuming we would have more success with Saban out of the picture. I do not believe that is the case.

I would have taken the national titles, past and future, the competitive nature costs us, thank you very much.
It has a silver lining, sure.....but you are really sitting there with a straight face and calling being embarrassed in the title game, when we would have blown out anyone else, the best thing to happen to LSU?
Ooookay

I've seen some doosies of premises given by rantards, but this one might take the cake.

No the best thing would have been Saban coming back to Lsu. He built the platform that miles stands on. Saban is the reason were on the planet. Did you think dinardeax would take us there? Saban going to bama ensures we will always be 2 nd best. We can't out recruit him, we can't outcoach him. I hate Saban but the bottom line is the guy is a genius.

if he wasnt over there we would probably still have the co-defensive coordinators and terrible OC and no championships.
