I believe when Bama hired him they believed it would lead to the demise of the golden era of LSU football. What has happened instead is they created the most compelling rivalry in college football that has now taken the LSU program to new heights. Record stadium attendance, national record TV ratings and exposure the LSU program would not have been capable of.

Direct result is stadium expansion, extended national recruiting pull. Getting kids from Cali, Ohio, Illinois. We need Saban to stay at Bama for another 10 years.

Pretty sure this is the exact reason they hired him.

Interesting perspective. I do believe his Louisiana ties with High School football coaches was an definite added bonus for BAMA. But the rivalry is good for BAMA as well. Better us than Auburn.

I'm just looking forward to Bama being a damn train wreck for 5-10 years after he leaves. He'll get closer to Bear status with another ship this year. Impossible to follow what he has done there.

LSU lost the game Saturday, but they won the event. Unprecedented level of TV, radio, and magazine promotion of LSU football.

This might be up there with Trindon at DE as the dumbest thing I've read on the rant.

When Saban goes to the Browns, I will infiltrate Tidefans as god is my witness.

I can assure you this was NOT the reasoning. We had gone through ten years of poor coaching hires and NCAA issue. We wanted a coach that would make us competetive once again in the SEC, period.

We lucked into Saban after Rich Rod agreed to the job then backed out. It was simply chance that Saban did not enjoy his NFL experience and in fact regretted the decision. Bama fans pretty much concur had the LSU job been open at that time he would have certainly returned.

If anything it was auburn and UT that were the biggest sore for us. No offense or disrespect for LSU but I don't think LSU alone was the driving force.

Rivalry with traditional college heavyweight has solidified the program as one of the nations elite. Plus the pressure on Miles to compete with the standard created by Saban will keep us a contender for many seasons to come.

Bama administrators likely didn't spend three seconds thinking about how LSU would be affected, they just wanted a proven college football coach who could bring in big money.

A Bama 'dynasty' is NEVER beneficial to LSU.

LSU was the unchallenged king of the SEC West at the time of the hire. The thought at the time was Saban would create pipeline to elite Loisiana talent that would erode talent level at LSU.

We have benefitted big time from the Bama media dynasty. There is no logical argument otherwise.

It certainly makes that game more fun.

The shadow that sabans predecessor will coach under will be 5 times what it was for miles.

We need to give everyone on this board a Wonderlic Test before being allowed to start a thread. I think some of these people couldn't even pass a WindowLicker Test.

No way. Saban to the NFL, but not to Bama. If he wasn't at Bama we'd be back to back NCs.

Since Saban established himself at Bama LSU has only won the west once. I'd say they accomplished their goal of hurting LSU. If that really was a goal.
