I think if saban did leave for whatever reason and miles name was thrown around for possible replacement the entire state of Alabama would spontaneously combust
Which wouldn't be a bad thing

Alabama would not hire Les...would not even think about it.
While this MAY be true, I can assure you that if Les decided to persue another job, he'd be a very sought after coach. To deny this is to admit that YOU are fool.

Ok, let's play a game. Variant of USC/Texas. Let's say ... Saban abruptly retires, health or something. Who would Alabama consider for head coach, salary no object?
Kirby Smart is the heir apparent.

Really think Alabama would risk turning over their program to a coach with no head coaching experience?
He might be successful or he may be a guy that was a great assistant and not a good HC..... see Will Muschamp, for example --- the jury is definately still out, but at present he's one more below expectations season from being out of a job, yet he was "Head coach in waiting" at Texas --- arguably the absolute BEST coaching job in CFB...
I don't disagree Smart would be a candidate, but likely not "heir apparent" in my opinion.

Ok, you see whiners can not answer the question which shows their anger is all hot air and because LSU lost to Alabama. Did you notice that LSU's undefeated regular season and their SEC championship got zero credit from the same fans because LSU lost to Alabama.
You don't think Arkansas wished they could have Miles for the money they are paying to their top HC.

They would promote an assistant before doing that.

I don't really think Miles is the 2nd best coach in the SEC West. No chance in hell he's #2 in the nation.

Shouldn't the 2nd best coach in football have a few more BCS appearances or at least a better bowl record after being here so long? Losses to Clemson and Penn St are very fresh on my mind and don't scream "2nd best coach". 2nd best coaches shouldn't lose to anyone in a bowl game except the 1st coach.

"If" Saban left Alabama, they would be a fool not to make a $$ play at Jimbo Fisher or David Shaw. What he is doing at Stanford cannot be overlooked either..

I don't think many teams want Miles. So no. I think that was all a ploy to get more money.

That's true, because in football the less talented team or coach never wins.

What about 3 times over a 6 year time span? You would think the 2nd best coach in the nation would be a little over .500 in that time frame against a team with vastly inferior talent. You're going to try and convince me that Houston Nutt beat the 2nd best coach what, 4 times?

Terrible logic...
Well, the 1st coach according to most (I think he is as well) is Nick Saban, and he lost to Utah in a bowl game at Alabama.
Who would be your second coach, because every coach except for first year guys and some second and third you guys have lost bowl games?
Personally I think the top 10 coaches go something like:
1. Saban
2. Meyer (No doubt #2 in my mind)
3. Briles (What he is doing at Baylor is incredible)
4. Spurrier
5. Miles
6. Shaw (Been impressive but needs to sustain, and has a bad loss each year)
7. Chris Petersen
8. Fisher (Would not have been in the top 10 before this season)
9. Charlie Strong
10. Brian Kelly
I also think that 3-10 on this list are pretty close, but the top 2 are entrenched for now.

There are a few things going on here:
1. Something's are so stupid they literally do not deserve a response. Your premise that miles is the 2nd best coach in the country is one if those things.
What actual evidence do you have to back this up? In what category is miles currently #2 in the country as a head coach? You say the media portrays him as #2. Give us some links to prove this.
2. Your question is not original. It has been asked and answered many times in the previous days, weeks, months, and even years. Go back and read any of the "if les sucks who replaces him?" Threads that are exactly like yours.
And along these same lines, you are no different than every other petulant child that asks this question, then completely ignores any valid response you would get. It doesn't matter how many lists I or anyone else posts of coaches that are better than les miles, you will ignore that posts and be asking this same stupid question in 2 weeks after the A&M game. So why bother?

That is how national media view it considering coaches are not evaluated based on outcomes of a couple of games but the program they have maintained in the last 7-10 years.
So one of the top 2 coaches in the country only had a top 10 team twice in the past six years and top 5 only once?
I think people are forgetting we are starting to get pretty far from the 2005-2007 era of dominance.
