Shep simply wasn't very good at LSU. He has stone hands.
The main play I'll remember was his senior year as the pitch man in an option play. He got a perfect pitch from our QB -- and he fumbled it. Thankfully, it was a short side option so the fumble went out of bounds.
But it was the perfect example of why he didn't get more touches (and let's be honest, he got more than enough chances during his career to show what he had).
He's a good guy and I wish him the best, but he has ZERO chance of making an NFL roster.

He was passed on the depth chart not because those receivers were any better physically but because they were young and the future and shep was on his way out. He was a good receiver but the staff wanted to polish the future of thee program at the position which is where we are this year. Two returning starting receivers and their quarterback all had significant game time together. Trust and believe because this is from inside the locker room.

I could probably see myself as a "sunshine pumper" as I was on Miles' side through 08-09 when all you could hear on this board was about how the ship was sinking, Saban's players, Larry Coker... yadda yadda.
But Shep making an NFL roster (for Chip Kelly nonetheless) proves nothing other than that he was NEVER a good fit for the system that Miles wants to run.
Shep and Trindon on the field at the same time would have been lethal at Oregon, but we run an I-formation smash-mouth style here that didn't cater to either of them. Not saying that Miles MISUSED him either... you don't completley retool your offense for one player.
Best of luck to him, he always represented LSU with class and dignity, but from a playing style standpoint, Shep and LSU were never going to be good for each other

The article basically says that he's been working harder than ever before. Staying after practice to train. If he would have done that in college his career at receiver would have been a lot better.

And you can't feasibly use the "Shep got his opportunities and didnt succeed" bullshite because Miles used Jordan Jefferson to run the short-side option and had no success, yet continued to run the same play over and over.

i think it's telling when someone thinks everything in the world is attributed to coaching or a lack thereof.
could it just be possible, that a player isn't as good as he's gonna be in college and can actually improve in the NFL once he gets there.
maybe he gets a new outlook or maybe just maybe he's been able to accumulate 10,000 hrs with a jugs machine and has improved his hands.
jerry rice constantly worked improving his hands.
maybe shep has improved his catching and route running which were not his strong points in college.
i love shep. i thought he was one of the best ambassadors for this program in the last decade. i wish him the best. but i didn't think he'd make or more importantly stay on a roster if he didn't improve his hands. maybe he knew that too and did.
everything doesn't always have to be about miles.

"About to make an NFL roster"???? The teams just started training camp and haven't even had the first round of cuts!!! Working hard and having a good attitude is wonderful, but it's production on the field that matters.
Talk again in a month after the roster starts getting trimmed down.

well if he's having good reps and one of their starters tore an ACL, his chances look pretty damn good. but it's way early

i really do wish him well.
you can wish a guy well, and it still doesn't make me blind to the fact that he had fundamental deficiencies at the college level.
love to see a guy like him succeed over asshats that have all the talent in the world and are just horrible people.
