why doesn't SLU just get some good ballplayers instead of using BS tactics?
Posted on 3/23/17 at 8:18 am to Choupique19
did the coach try to tattle after being called a pussy?

Yup, walked over to Mainieri and said Reynolds was being mean to him. Dead serious.

bullshite, if you are going to accuse a guy of cheating, you better be right about it. He wasn't, and hes every bit the fricking pussy that Reynolds said he was

Reynolds has a big goo spot on the bill of his hat
I'm not surprised you'd side against an LSU player when someone falsely accuses that player of cheating, even after the umpires determine there was nothing illegal, i.e., a "big goo spot," on the hat. Typical of you.

Been watching college baseball since the 70's, live & in person, & I have never seen a college pitcher checked before. Chickenshit & it just goes to show that you cann't take tulane out of your blood. And then he goes & tattles to CPM, that was the real show of class. Take care of your own players & let the other HC take care of his. He got his former tulane arse booed like crazy. Love Reynold's reaction.

The SELU coach is doing what he should do by asking the umpires to inspect the hat. The umpires checked the hat, deemed it okay, said let's play ball. Should be the end of story. Reynolds lost his composure, started jawing with either the SELU head coach and/or SELU players, and walked the next batter on 5 pitches.
If you don't wear a 3 year old hat with goo on it don't get offended when the umps check your hat.

Typical of you to blindly believe in all instances "LSU always right", "other team always wrong".

You keep using that word goo. It's clearly just dirt. I mean you even posted the picture.

But keep up your perpetual anti-LSU players/coaches narrative. I'd be disappointed in you if you were any other way.

I'm not saying you are wrong necessarily but there shouldn't be a problem with Reynolds response either.....I mean the guy questioned his character in front of thousands of people (+ TV watchers). I'd have done the same thing Reynolds did....with the exception of walking the next batter. In all honesty I'd probably have gave him a little chin music (but I'm glad Russell didn't go that route).

For a coach standing in the 3rd base box, there is no way to know what is on the bill of the hat. He asked the ump to check it, the umpires did and decided there was no foreign substance on the hat. As I said before, it should have been end of story. Even Doug Thompson said on the radio that Reynolds should have been flattered to think that his ball was dancing enough that the other team thought he might have been doctoring the ball.
You guys are crazy if you think the other team's coach is just supposed to keep quiet and not ask the umpire about the hat if they notice it. The other team's coach has a right to fight for his players as well.
The problem came when the jawing back and forth started. I was listening on radio at the time, and I have only seen the gif posted on twitter so I don't know how all that went down. Was Reynolds speaking to the other coach? Was he responding to the SELU players in the dugout? I don't know. But even Russian's BFF Paul Mainieri thought Reynolds lost his composure and he pulled him after the next batter with 2 outs and only 1 runner on base.

Yeah, I would have hit the batter, or at least thrown at him. Probably not the correct way to react, admittedly.

Agreed. But you have a high definition picture to look at in this thread and are still referring to it as goo. I can't take you seriously.

Are you saying that a person standing 60 feet away can't see a black spot on the bill of Reynolds hat? All the coach asked was for the umpire to check on it.
Posted on 3/23/17 at 8:57 am to bbap
A ton of players have an identical dirt spot on their hats. Its from taking your hat on and off with dirty, sweaty hands.
That is so common the umps probably had an internal chuckle when they saw it.

jesus dude read the thread. I agree its in the coaches right, although stupid on his part, to have the hat checked. You, on the other hand have a perfectly good picture of the hat in this thread and can't seem to admit that it is not goo on his hat and its just dirt.
Also, while what Riser did is perfectly legal if he thought there wouldnt be backlash for calling someone a cheater than he's living in a fantasyland. Reynolds response was completely justified.
As far as him walking people, he does that shite whether rattled or not. Reynolds is just a mediocre pitcher.

Was Reynolds speaking to the other coach?
Look, anyone can see that the hat is old and not even the same color as everyone else's. Every player knows that dirt gets on that spot over time. And Reynolds at no point acted like he was using anything on the hat. He wasn't touching it that often. It was his 6th appearance. Was Riser the only coach who actually thought he was doing something illegal? Or did they all not give a shite because they know that old hats get dirty?

The most frustrating thing to me is you can see for spurts that he has it....but as you suggest he loses it for lengthy periods of time.

Now this is a good take.
Very interesting indeed.
