it is sad that this happened, but, this is 2011 and we are under different social values that were not in place in Rudy's time. Everybody is under a microscope, especially those people in the public eye.

Social media and other cultural changes make it impossible to go back to that era.

I played for USL in the mid 90s. We had 2 "incidents" that I personally witnessed while I was there. The first was a barfight involving the football team that was largely swept under the rug. The second involved the football team accosting a fraternity (this was handled through the university). Criminal charges were never involved likely due to the lack of cellphone pics/vids/media.

The barfight involved a high profile player who was recovering from an ACL repair. We were out after our spring game. Tough guys wanted to start trouble with the big time player. Player tries to walk away, but situation escalates. Punches are thrown after these guys push my friend (who is in a knee brace). We mop the floor with guys (dark crowded bar). The bouncers (USL football player..) gently escort them out if the establishment. Nothing ever comes of it...

Funny sidenote: after the brawl we all discuss the following day. One of my buddies was rolling around on the floor in the ordeal. He tells me how sore his ribs are because someone was kicking the hell out of him. Later in the day we talk to a different player (said high profile player) to ask him about his knee. He responded he was really sore because he was kicking the shite out some a-hole on the ground...

The scenarios are not apples and apples, but shite happens. It can be argued that neither parties should have put themselves in the situation (out at bars after-hours).

I know. CSB. Token ULL comments...

if Rudy is trying to make this some covert racial issue, he's really not the best guy to do it.

The afternoon after his final LSU game in 1981 in Philadelphia when Reagan was shot in DC he was asked about it and the if the final should be played. His response was 'no big deal to me.He's no kin of mine.'

Yea,that was 30 yrs ago, sure but this FB post looks like 'good ol' Rudy doesn't hesitate to draw on his racial gun out of his holster, either.

Yes, that was a different scene; we are on the eve of showdown with MNC implications and potential great season, JJ should be a leader not someone in any vacinity of the debacle and accused now charged of kicking someone in the head no matter how much of AH the guy may have been. Unfortunite and time to move on! Bring on the Duckies!

No...sir...you are the pathetic one. You run with information and condemn and you have absolutely no proof of anything...and that is fact. Who was the one in this situation kicked out of high school, arrested, stalking, restraining orders, kicked out of the bar the very night this happened...the first to throw the punch...etc...??? The real thug is Lowery. I don't like JJ as QB....but this shite is pathetic what they are doing to him, and people like you are just as pathetic with your ignorant views on someone and something you have absolutely no proof of.

First off, I've never claimed anyone guilty, so get your facts straight. Just because I am not going to sit here and try to do mental gymnastics to excuse the stupidity of some LSU players doesn't mean that I am judge and jury here. I am sorry it is hard for most of you to accept that it is most likely that LSU players kicked a guy in the head and fracture three vertebra in a guy.

I am sorry it is hard for some of you to understand that while the video doesn't specifically identify the kicker, it shows several parts of Lowery the douche's version accurate. Nothing in the video counter's Lowery's version.

With that said, Lowery is a douche, but that does excuse going to far by whomever did it. I think it is retarded for fans to act like the BRPD did anything more than give JJ and the players plenty of chances. A normal person would've been arrested and booked last Friday, not given all this extra time to get a lawyer, and go through hoops to try and be more rigorous on the evidence.

Just because the media has blown this up and the PD has made some mistakes with press releases doesn't mean they've fouled this up.

Someone kicked this player and the other got fractured vertebra. Who did it, I don't know, but if the players aren't giving the cops a name, it's on them since there were at least 10 there watching. If JJ is innocent then they are letting him take the fall when they can exonerate him.

All that said, I pray that no innocent person gets the shaft here, and I hope JJ and JJ are cleared of wrong doing, but unlike previous times fights have happened, several people involved have used their right to file charges. As pathetic as that may seem to some of you, it's their legal right.

You mean with the exception of the "unconscious" part?

I agree, but length of being unconscious doesn't mean it didn't happen. You can black out for a split second, and it would still legally be considered unconscious.

It's just sad this whole ordeal. The thing people seem to be forgetting though are the other 3 "victims". Lowery's version may have some questionable parts, but how about theirs?

Also, the "victims" won't win in court most likely, but is it worth it for the players to let it go on that long.

All of the above.

Where does this report give any details about the attacks on the 3 other "victims".

It seems Lowery's account is well covered. It even includes the details of the attack on the man removed from the truck, in so far as they relate to Lowery's assistance.

Can you point me in the direction of statements that conclude the felony charges are contained within what is described in this report, and can be seen on video?

If law enforcement is basing their charges on what is contained in this video, and what occured to Lowery, I think they're out of line, and deserve any, all, and more criticism than they are presently receiving.

I just refuse to believe that everything known by both sides has been disclosed, and maybe for good reason.

Rudy's got race issues, it appears
quote:

Rudy Macklin Says He Was Scarred by Philadelphia Experience

Thirty years have passed since LSU rolled into Philadelphia for the Final Four with a 31-3 record and the favorite to win the NCAA championship. At halftime on March 28, 1981 at the Spectrum, LSU led Indiana, 30-27.

The final was Indiana 67, LSU 49. The Tigers were stunned in the second half by the Hoosiers as LSU’s best player, Rudy Macklin, closed his career with a hand injury and was ineffective against the Hoosiers’ Landon Turner.

Two nights later, LSU lost the last NCAA Tournament consolation game to Virginia, 78-74, hours after President Reagan had been shot in Washington D.C. Headlines the following day focused on Macklin’s alleged response to a reporter when asked if the game should have been played: “He’s No Kin of Mine.”

“After the game, a reporter from Philadelphia asked if the shooting of the president affected my game,” Macklin remembers as he frowns about the content of letters and telephone conversations from people alarmed by his purported remark. “I got hate mail from every Klansman and white supremacist.”

Rudy Macklin is an expert on the topic of jump rope for heart or president's physical fitness pullup requirements. Beyond that, who cares what a basketball player from 30-40 years ago thinks?

Some people did not want to see him at QB for LSU and now he pays a price for something that many students do on a regular basis at bars all around campus. Where does the hatred come from?

If Rudy's trying to imply what I think he's trying to imply, then I have just lost a shite-ton of respect for him.

Students are not members of the LSU football team.

They are and should be held to a higher standard.

Back in "his time" there was not ESPN, Internet, 24 News Cycles, NCAA climbing all over these programs, and the litigious society we are currently living in.

That is not a fair comparison.

Completely agree...if you think you're badass enough to start a fight with someone you should be ready to take whatever is coming to you. You would think a guy who had just been through boot camp would know this.
