I thought it was the right call. Schlottman's heel hit the bag right as the curve of Laird's foot was coming over the top: heel on ground to toe on bag.

No you do not. The ball has to beat the runner. If it does not beat the runner, as in they get there at the same time, then the runner is safe. Laird was safe!
