Arkansas has an RPI in the 40s with no more games to play this week. I'd be stunned if they host.

I think it’s unlikely, but I’m not sure I’d feel entirely comfortable leaving it to the committee to sort out between LSU, Auburn and Arkansas if LSU loses out. You’d have Auburn in the RPI Top 15, LSU around #20 and Arkansas around #40, but Arkansas at 18-14 in SEC play, LSU at 18-15 and Auburn at 16-14.

Well it would be a first. No team has ever been a #1 seed with an RPI that low.

I get it, but I think it’s also a first that the team with the 3rd best record in the highest rated conference is that low in the RPI.

It's the first time since Arkansas in 2013. They didn't host that year either. Happened to Kentucky in 2012. They didn't host.

Arkansas is not hosting with an RPI in the 40s period

More than likely not. I just don’t think any of us can say with any degree of certainty what the committee is going to do in a year when RPI and conference standings are so dramatically disconnected from each other. If RPI is given that much greater weight then LSU still stands to get passed over for a hosting spot if they lose out. In that case it would be Auburn that’s the threat rather than Arkansas.

I remember the discussion on that, but forget the specifics. Was the SEC the highest rated conference both years? Did Arkansas and Kentucky still have the 3rd best overall SEC record including tournament games?

I think so. at least one of those years. both teams made it to sec semi final through the losers bracket after winning the first round game. that's all I remember

In 2012, UK was tied for 3rd with Florida, who did get a host spot. In 2013, the ACC had a higher RPI by a sizable margin. Neither is exactly analogous to what would happen this year if LSU loses out.

One of the years yes

Arkansas doesn’t this year so this point is pretty irrelevant

If LSU loses out, Arkansas will have the 3rd best overall SEC record. That’s the scenario I was talking about.

LSU and Arkansas are on two pretty different and obvious trajectories right now. if the committee doesnt take that into account then frick em

Oh, I definitely agree with that. I really don’t think there’s much chance of Arkansas hosting. I’d just rather LSU win another game or two to not leave any doubt.

They mentioned last night that two teams have finished 18-12 in the regular season (SEC) and not hosted, and both of those teams had an RPI in the 30s.

A 42 equals a 2 seed elsewhere.
