If he's good, he'll just portal up in a year with more money from LSU. I'm with Kiffin on this, screw big money for an unproven HS player. WR is dime a dozen in the portal. You can find a big WR1 who's PROVEN easily.

We pay so much for coaches and past coaches we can’t afford to be the highest bidder for every player. Just the way it is.

This isn't always true. Just look at this last portal class.
There really aren't any top nfl type guys that hit the portal. Lsu spent a lot of money in the portal at receiver and look what they got. You have to pay for elite talent.

Going to guess LSU is not too concerned here because they can easily back channel guys to slide into the portal through their agents. It wasn't as easy since Kiffin was only here a short time beforehand. I'm sure they're identifying players they want right now and will be negotiating with their agents. Let's give it a year and see what he can do.
I know Kiffin doesn't put a premium on WRs like some. His scheme finds a way to get guys open. There's a huge bit of mediocre there right now for LSU but I'm willing to bet they find a WR1 in the portal this year. Dollar signs speak so they're going to listen and LSU will pay. That's all that matters.
I doubt LSU had much opportunity this past portal class to tamper much with agents. It's totally different with him in place right now. Also, as far as this situation goes, why would you bid higher in October? You wait until last minute. If LSU wants him badly enough they'll bid higher when it makes sense.

We spent a lot on WR in the aggregate. We didn’t pay top dollar to any WR.

As Chalky was saying above on WR1s, OL is actually the hardest to recruit in the portal. If they should be dumping money anywhere in HS it's DL and OL. 2 hardest positions to get in the portal because once teams realize they got a stud there they understand it's the most important aspect outside a QB. They rarely let them leave. That's where unproven money should be going.
