Ridley's HB pass the 3rd play of the game

I didn't like the call, but it was one of those where we would have loved it had it worked.
Looking back at the play... as Ridley ran towards the sideline, there was no one within 15 yards of Jefferson. We need to go back to that play and run it with a throwback to the quarterback. If Jefferson can catch, he strolls in to the endzone.

I saw that when i watched the replay. I had no problem about it being called. At least he didn't try to force it and get it picked.

hindsight is always 20/20. What if Ware's pass to RR was incomplete or picked?
I bet you didn't think that was a 'bad' call.

That's not a play to run on 3rd and long when the defense is already expecting pass. Also that's something that should be called later in the game when the defense is expecting run and the safeties bite on the run

I liked the call just didn't work out and it wasn't a terribly negative play. The main calls I didn't like was when we did back to back options.

No. But that was in the 4th quarter when LSU's offense hadn't done anything that half.
3rd and 4 on the 3rd play of the game? Stupid. Run a good quick passing play and pick up the first.
ETA: That's not the point.

We would have lost to Auburn. That would have sucked

This is a major problem I have with a lot of fans. They only like a playcall based on results.
Whether it worked or not should always influence your decision on whether it was a good call or not. If the reverse to Peterson on 4th and 1 doesn't work does that mean it wasn't the right play call?
I understand that the result does influence your decision, but it should not be the only thing that matters.
Personally I liked the playcall even though it did not work.

Say it did work, it would fire up the entire stadium even more..Thats exactly the kind of energy you want for that game. That could be whats Miles was going for and i dont blame him.

Yep, JJ was wide open. I don't know if I want Ridley throwing the ball. Maybe Shep should have thrown it.

I think Tolliver got held myself. It had a chance to work if Tolliver doesn't get held.

I thought it was going to be a designed throwback and was putting 6 on the board for us if it was.

I did not mind it too much but thought it was highly predictible. When he took the 3rd pitch pretty much everyone in the room with us instantly knew it would be a pass attempt. I can handle it though b/c those type of plays have worked more times than not.

The worst play call was the option at the end not only did it get JJ hurt it lost 5 yards. I don't have a problem running it a couple times a game but in that situation no. That is my problem with Crowton he can get on a roll with some good play calling and then just frick it all up. You don't run a high risk play like that on your end of the field with 3 minutes to go.

I think he had like 3 guys on him if i remember correctly. Alabama wasnt remotely fooled...which is enough to say that it wasnt a very good play call. I didnt like it as soon as i saw ridley pull up.

I didn't mind the call. Ridley didn't force it is the most important thing!
But you see if you catch Bama early....like said, if it worked the whole stadium would have been much more vocal in the first half.

That's absolutely what it shoulda been. Showed them the HB pass to the near-side reciever against Auburn. Then after all their DBs streak downfield we throw it back to Jefferson ala Eric Crouch.

I posted the same thing right after the game. JJ was wide open. This type of play calling is an OC staying one step ahead of the opposing DC, which Crowton clearly does not have the ability to do. It also is utilizing one play to set up a new wrinkle, which creates a high percentage of success. Especially running that play so early in the game. Bama did exactly what I would have and did expect them to do after practicing against it for two solid weeks. However, I've given up on Cro-Magnon achieving that level of an OC.

I wish they would have waited until Ware entered the game to call that play--it just seemed to work better when he did it vs. Auburn.
