The Kentucky shite bothers me almost more than this.

LSU having tougher policies in place regarding things off the field having a direct impact on the field.

Really supervisors? You can go and purchase THC products with the LSU label on it if you have an RX, yet players can't use? Maybe they can if they get an RX, with the pounding they take at practice, they certainly deserve it!

Portal is what it is, it gives stud and highly sought after players a chance to flip if the tough gets going. Bama is going to get whoever they want. I think LSU will get a good bit of the action too, may just take some time.

NIL, yet to be determined. We need to setup some kind of fund that gives every starting OL a guaranteed $100k if they stay for 3+ years. Forget about sending the money to TAF, send it directly to the players. Can easily raise half a mil to get some top tier players at various positions.

It doesn't run that deep for them.
It did once, and it does for some. Idk how old you are, but LA kids getting absolutely jacked to go ball for LSU (even before we were winning anything) is the kind of energy that carves college sports a market at all, period.

Someone else said it perfectly already, this is just NFL Lite now.

Only with more teams, less parity, 4-year max on player eligibility, and a wacky league structure + post-season structure that both have to take into account more than just football.

This is starting to look like an unmitigated disaster, and if the snowball continues to snowball a lot of money and eyes are going to move elsewhere and the NCAA will just be a NFL farm gift-wrapped as a ruin of a bygone era.

Joe. Burrow.

was a fricking grad transfer. he didnt transfer to michigan from ohio state after faking an injury.

myle brennan stuck around LSU for years during and after injury before deciding he wants to transfer, while max johnson regressed all season and mailed it in.

every transfer is not created equal.

I know Ricks isn’t an LA kid. You’re not seeing how significant a change this is going to be for the sport.

They may try to reel it in some, but as it stands with NIL being poorly defined / uneven + nothing in place to promote parity + virtually no restrictions on transfers — this is going to implode on itself & very, very few will benefit.

This will be a net negative for CFB, big time. Not even on my LSU soap box with this — talking about the whole sport.

I’m a young guy, you must either be really young or the kind of football fan who enjoys fantasy managing more than tailgating.

I actually think NIL is going to become less ridiculous like it has been this past year once companies realize their return of investment will be significantly less than what they are paying.

It’s getting that way. This was about money. They are ruining college football

NIL needs to be reined in. Fast.

I mean, this is the Wild West period for sure. It’ll even out some. But it’s certainly not starting from a strong place. Question is what does CFB look like when the dust settles.

Maybe I’m being pessimistic, but I think there’s a good chance we’ve seen this sport’s heyday come and go. Would love to be wrong.

I feel the same way. The Kentucky transfers bother me almost more than this. Can’t say I disagree with a single thing you stated in your post either.

I agree employers and employees should be able to negotiate reasonable time and geographic non-compete agreements. Problem is college athletes aren't employees and don't have the right to negotiate that, and imposing it on them unilaterally would likely be an antitrust violation under Alston.

I’ll always cheer for our Tigers to win, but the rules as they stand are absolutely not good for the sport, no matter who is benefiting at any given time.

seems like a lot of people here don't really understated how the portal and the transfer rules actually work.

I think you’re right. I just don’t see the passion coming back (players or fans) to what it was say in the 90’s-2000’s with this current climate.

True.

And we should be benefitting from the portal.

An NIL deal is a great way to launder money to pay a recruit or a player (to NOT enter the portal). It has nothing to do with advertising dollars, other than cover.

A NIL agent is a great way to tamper with cover and plausible deniability. It has nothing to do with actually being an agent assisting a player in NIL deals, other than cover for tampering.
