But Charles Scott, Jordan Jefferson, and the LSU offense would have had a field day with Rice.

Jordan Jefferson had one decent game... and to further explain my point, I meant to qualify "at the end of the regular season."

I'm as big of an LSU football fan as you will find, and I in no way, shape, or form think that the heralded Malleveto pass defense would have been able to stop Rice. Not only that, but LSU's offense was not built around quick strikes. I just don't see how it's such a big stretch to imagine a scenario where LSU wouldn't have been able to keep up with Rice's scoring considering LSU's offense last season was a completely one dimensional power run game, and LSU couldn't stop anyone from throwing the ball... much less one of the top passing teams in the country.

Evidently the lad gets tough with runners on.

Either that or he gives up a lot of unearned runs!

Seriously, the Astros had a starter named Bob Knepper back in the early 80s. Very effective if you didn't make an error behind him, but it seemed like every time the team made a two-out error, he went on to give up 7 runs that inning (all unearned of course). So he had something like a 2.7 ERA and a 5-10 record.

He did have a few unearned runs but nothing above average. Rice is a very sound defensive squad and don't have many errors.

Why does the Rice 3 hole (Diego Sistrunk) look like he's one of the weaker hitters (.289, 6 HR's)?

Though his average is one of the lower on the team if you look at his 44 walks, he actually has one of the highest on base percenteages on the team.

If you ask if Rice has football, should I ask if LSU has academics?

Looks like he had a Blake Dean type year except he never really got out of the slump. Other teams seem like they pitch around him a good bit.

The DH Lewis was teammates with Austin Nola last year for Catholic. Pretty interesting.

He looks like he's strictly a single hitter though, it's an odd spot for him. Rendon has a sick slash line: .384/.458/.688. He's basically what Blake Dean was for us last year.

How did Rice having to come up through the losers bracket prove they should have been a top 8 national seed?

Same way we came up the loser's bracket to win the SEC Tournament.

Dude Be excited about your baseball team. You will not convince anyone here that Rice is even closely comparable in football. It begins with recruiting and ends with a team that plays in a conference second to the NFL. Your NCAA stats do not translate to a team that is playing in a completely different league.

From today's Houston paper:

Rice sounds pretty confident (or at least the sportswriter does)

last night all of us bench coaches ( and by bench I mean the seats in the stands)

Were you at the game Sunday? Rice seemed like a ghost town. Not many cars there and NO noise. I didn't go to the game, but was on campus and parked in the same lot as the people at the game. If the scoreboard and lights weren't on, I wouldn't have known anything was going on.

I would expect a totally different atmopsphere in BR this weekend. I hope LSU fans show up in huge numbers and are are at their best! (I am sad I will not be able to make this one )

Change J Lee to Jefferson. Also played @ Rice.

eta: QB didn't matter, this was with Lee: LINK
I have run the sim 10 with LSU coming out on top all 10. The closest was a 34 - 31 LSU win.

My original point (which was completely lost because I'm fairly certain no one on this board saw Rice play last year)... was that during the stretch of games at the end of the regular season where LSU couldn't produce points and the D was getting shredded, I would have picked Rice to win.

We're talking about an offense that threw for 48 TDs last year (the most in the country) versus the 73rd ranked pass defense in the country. And Rice's defense is well below average... don't get me wrong... but could LSU's 55th ranked offense really keep up with the scoring?

ETA: Any other year, Rice and LSU football doesn't belong in the same sentence. My point is... last year Rice would have given LSU absolute fits.
