Rewatching the game. Re: Jordan Jefferson

He's getting better...a LOT better.
In fact, I think the last major hurdle he has is staying comfortable in the pocket when the OL gives him time.
A couple of times, he started to needlessly escape, caught himself, and then delivered a pretty good ball. If he can work on that footwork, and get more comfortable, our QB situation just went from "hopefully good enough" to a legitimate asset.
Also, Hilliard is a stud.

THis is the first time I can remember him throwing well on the run. He also threw one away (on the run) instead of shitting his pants and running backwards.

I said it last week. Even with only 8 throws you could see obvious improvement. His ball placement is MUCH better. He is hitting slants in stride now and throwing WR screens much better. My favorite throw of the came is ironically an incompletion to clement. He hit him down the field but the placement was away and up from the defender because Clement was a bigger body and only he could catch it. Hit him in both hands and he should have come down with it.

Get rid of the designed rollout, the line can't block that play well enough.

Yeah, the designed rollouts were not executed well at all. But he did much better scrambling than I can remember.

I agree. He is looking much better.
He has to throw that sideline pass that was intercepted away instead of trying to squeeze it in, but other than that, he did a great job. I'm sure they'll address that interception in film study.

One particular rollout vs Arkansas, he "outrolled"(for lack of a better word) the blockers. What I mean by that is the blockers were set up well to block for him, but he kept running to the sideline and gave the defenders a clear path to him, making the blockers ineffective. I think this was the play where he should have been sacked but kept his balance and through it away. However

Me too.
We have now successfully fine-tuned the offense to where it is now tailored to his particular strengths--i.e., doing rollouts, zone reads, option runs, a few play action passes, and making strong throws on comeback routes to the outside.
The throw to Clement was something that he has rarely been able to do before, and that is successfully read a defense and throw to an open zone over the middle.
His release is also dramatically shorter than it was before, even as recently as this spring.
I still have problems with the guy and the way the whole QB situation was handled from the Kentucky game to the Alabama game (a sore issue for me that I'll just speak about on another day), but I've also said since this summer that we could win a NC with him at QB, and once the first half of that Bama game was over and done with, I've got no argument against playing him all the way through.

Absolutely. He looked extremely confident throwing the football in what had to be his best game in an LSU uniform.
Very encouraging to see heading into the next two games.

He looks better for sure. It still looks like some reads are late but that could still improve over next 2 games. Pass to Clement was nice but I think Shep was wide open down sideline. Offense has multiple looks with JJ at QB.

He is solid at scrambling and his passes are pretty good when he gets them off. He still gets the "deer in the headlights" look from time to time and will hold onto the ball too long. His legs got him out of a few sacks, but his confidence in them also got him into a few sacks when he should have just thrown it away.

looks faster this year also. His ability to escape and turn on the speed is exactly what gives aggressive defenses headaches.
His only weaknesses are touch passes and holding the ball too long sometimes. Even this has improved, and he has become pretty lethal in this offense. Glad to see he is having success after adversity.

Best tell...JJ saw left side blitz coming, adjusted to throw it to left side WR who was left 1-1 and completed it; a pro style read I have rarely seen before. Krags?!

Ya, pains me to think what could have been if we had gotten rid of Crowton earlier. And how much better would JJ be if he didn't miss what... 5 weeks?

JJ has won me over - I am sentimentally attached to Lee for the adversity that he overcame, his loyalty to the team, and his calm guidance through the first half of the season. He was indispensible.
BUT - looking at JJ the since the Alabama game, there is no doubt he is the best choice to lead us through the next two games.
I would like to see Lee get some kind of team award though - the man is a trouper - and he has saved our bacon way more than he has led us to defeat.

I agree... he's improved a lot. His throwing is better for sure.
It's amazing what happens when LSU gets a real QB coach.

I have been quick to criticize Jefferson the past two years when I felt that he deserved it. I also must admit that he has made HUGE strides this year in all phases of his game. The more I think about it the more I think to myself that Crowton was the main issue with the development and progression of our QBs/offense the past several years. I don't think it's coincidence that both Jefferson and Lee are worlds better just 1 year after he is gone!

It was awesome watching him do his thing.
