Yeah I don’t think we will miss Aranda as much as some think. The defense was embarrassing much of the game and frankly much of the season given the amazing talent level we had.

D definitely under performed for the first 2/3 of the season last year, but they came on strong for the last 1/3 of the season!

They replay the UT game all the time and I don't watch it because of the defense in the 2nd half.

Clemson scored 7 points in the last 40 minutes of the NC game... just sayin.

It’s almost as if the defense got better when they were fully healthy.

My how the times change. A year ago this board thought Aranda was all LSU had and were anointing him head coach in waiting.

depth issues were a big issue in the first 2/3. once we had our full team on defense it was much easier to run his more complicated scheme. Last 4 games are a great example of that.

Mullen has always seemed to have Aranda's number. Maybe now we won't have such issue against Florida's offense

Those 75 yd drives were a nightmare. Seemed like UF was never behind the chains... ever.

Those long drives did much more damage to our D than any quick strike offense ever could.

I'll give it to Aranda, the D could and would rally at critical points and come through it seemed like every time. But it seemed like they made it much more hard on themselves than they had to.

But waiting on those times where they went from wilting to not giving an inch was nerve-wracking. I still say for 2019 Aranda was to defense what Les Miles was to offense.

It’s the truth we don’t want to admit sometimes.

Give Mullen credit. He’s consistently whipped every DC we’ve had for the most part.

A lot of Florida’s big plays were timing passes where Trask threw it to a spot, including a lot of back shoulder throws, and the throws were executed so well that they were essentially indefensible. Even Stingley got beat multiple times but it wasn’t coverage lapse as much as just great scheme and a execution.

Mullen might be weird AF but he is one of the best offensive minds / QB coaches in the country.

we had them 3rd and long a couple of times, but they converted for long gains on screenplays...very frustrating

There was a pretty big story mid-season. The defense, especially with the injuries suffered to the DL, Todd Harris, etc. just wasn't able to execute like Dave though and he basically changed the defense mid-season to a more simple defense, which took time.

Yes, it was not Dave's best year, but I think you see after the Ole Miss game a much improved defense (and even before it in stretches). Hell, even the Champ game is a small view of it. Defense was trying to do too much early on. Finally Dave simplified and just let them play and viola - we kicked their butts the rest of the game on defense.

So you’re saying after Aranda changed away from his overly complex scheme to a more talent based attacking scheme the defense was much improved?

That is my point. Basically when he started running a Pelini type D the defense got much better. We won’t miss him as much as some worry.

It has been stated before but, the last 4 games were against preseasin high profile qb's, the defense gave up a total of 1 passing td and had 6 int's. That was the last regular season game, SEC Championship, Playoff game and NC. Yeah, they finally found their stride!

The defense was bad for much of the first part of the season. Aranda was good but he wasn’t so good that we can’t easily replace him

It’s like people forget early 2005, late 2007

Im glad Bo came back but people act like we’re replacing Lou Tepper with Bill Parcells.

They way the defense played against two of the top offenses in Clemson and Oklahoma was amazing to see. Etienne couldn’t get loose, jalen hurts got rocked everytime he tried to run. Aranda did a great job
