So for some reason I decided to rewatch last years game. Not sure why I put myself through that but I came away encouraged.

It was very obvious that last year Burrow really had faith in only one receiver at that point in the year and it was Jefferson. He looked for him on almost every pass and was forced to tuck and run after his first read on most plays thanks to #92 being in the backfield every play. With Joe having faith in all his receivers this year as well as the TE position I expect this years game to look MUCH different (I know I know, cue the “duh” gifs)

Second, we didn’t do a terrible job on Tua and manning up their receivers. The defense was just on the field ALL game and you are gonna give up some plays when you are out there that long. I like this years defense more than last year when you consider the health/depth of our d-line. Should be a good one.

This year we don’t have Greedy and Joseph, most importantly Joseph. I think that having Stingley negates the loss of Greedy but not having Joseph has hurt us all year. We need Flott and/Ward to step up big.

Flott and Ward are really having trouble with big receivers. Thankfully, Bama doesn't have those this year.

I think we will score some points this year, but if we don't, I'm going to be one of those maniacs you see on YouTube the day after a game having a psychotic break and running around smashing everything in their house.

You're right. Bama doesn't have big receivers. They do have four of the best WRs I've ever seen at Tuscaloosa. Last year Bama had Irv Smith at TE, and he was a force. This year Miller Forestall has been the goto TE, but he mainly is a blocker. Against LSU, he won't be that. He suffered a throat injury against Arkansas that puts him out for six weeks. That leaves Major Tennison as the only TE with any significant playing time. So the Bama offense won't be TE heavy in the passing plays.

It's gonna be fascinating to see how all of the matchups play out.

I'm encouraged. For once I feel like LSU isn't bringing a plastic butter knife to a gun fight.

I don't understand why people do this. You are not a coach breaking down game film. Why do this??

Clemson stopped their run, and confused Tua pre-snap. Showing man and then dropping to zone. Keep the plays in front of us and stop their run. Bend not break defensive approach wouldn’t be a bad strategy, similar to how Auburn played us. If we smother their run and can keep them out of the end zone in the redzone, we limit points on their possessions.

We won the 2011 game despite giving up a lot of yards because our D locked down in the redzone and made Saban coach tight.

3rd thing I would add is that our O-Line is much improved from last year.

Georgia in the SEC Championship last year had Tua rattled, 2 INTs, less than 50% completion, under 200yds.

Georgia’s leading receiver was their TE. They rushed for over 160yds and dominated time of possession. Fromm was over 300yds and 3TDs.

Kirby absolutely blew the game because he couldn’t adjust to J.Hurts but Tua was shut down completely in that game.

Last year has ZERO to do with this year! Won't struggle with run game to set up passing. Two different entities. Bama has too much field to cover. They will not stop the air attack that's coming their way. Go ahead bama, load the box to your peril! Slow, methodical drives will take the zip out of bama defense. LSU pulls away in 4th, just like a good race horse. Everyone knows it's coming, bama won't have anything left in the bag to stop the Tigers!

Clemson also had 3 first round picks on their D line. Please don’t compare us to them. We are not close on the D line. We have had to blitz to get pressure. Clemson did not. The secondary is where we have talent.

I think we have advantages on offense that we haven’t had in years though.

I did this the analysis other day, but going strictly by listed weight - Taking corners Ward, Flott and Jones - about 10 offensive linemen as well as Ika and Shelvin weigh as much as any two of them.

He probably is really excited about the game, especially the X's and O's standpoint. I rewatch old games all the time to catch things I would have missed in the heat of the moment

Clemson blitzed Tua like crazy and threw him off his game early IIRC. After the early interception he was toast. Venebles was all up in his head.

Bama was actually having success running the football, but because that wasn’t their MO last year they didn’t really stick with it.

Venebles being aggressive, and their aggressive downfield throwing, is why Clemson ran away with it.

Aggressive, aggressive, aggressive.

Yep. And by rewatching games you realize most of these highly anticipated matchups come down to 2 or 3 key plays. The final score can be misleading because momentum plays such a big role. It’s about who can capture it the most.
