If anything it looked like Dural was setting up for a jump ball, but the ball sailed and he
then tried to correct back to the end zone

the ball was already on its way and almost there when he stopped to set up for a jump ball when all he had to do was keep running and it would have landed straight in his hands (for a drop no doubt). He either completely misjudged the ball or . I don't know what else, there is no or. Bad hands plus can't judge a ball in the air . A bad combo for a supposedly #1 receiver. He is just not a very good receiver, way overrated by our fanbase, and I don't say it just based on this game.

Nothing like putting it in perspective. Drops will cost games as the schedule becomes more difficult. LSU needs to do things a little more smoothly. Maybe they will be honed to a steely edge in Columbia...

Although I did not read all of your book, I think I got the gist of it from the first few paragraphs. I was only able to watch the first quarter live, and watched the rest of the game last night. The game I was expecting to see was very different than the game I watched.

I enjoy your posts like the ones in this thread. Worst case, you're cautiously optimistic in seeing the most positive interpretation of plays that others find inexcusably negative, but I believe your assessments are generally balanced and objective for an LSU fan... and I tend to agree. Thanks for your efforts.

IMO, one of the more interesting/frustrating things about being an LSU fan is that games often do appear more difficult than they should be. I didn't get to watch this last game, but suspect you're right: due to 1 poor defensive drive, 1-2 other poor defensive plays and one turnover, EMU pulled close on the scoreboard in the 2nd & 3rd quarters in a game that was mostly trending toward a blowout.

Nearly every other top 10 team gives up one bad drive and a couple other bad plays in nearly every game as well. But for some reason they never quite seem to be threatened by these small lapses the way LSU is.

There's something odd about it all. Being an LSU fan in recent years is like rooting for an antihero. LSU football isn't the prototypical good looking hero that's supposed to win; it's not like Superman, who generally does what he should (with a pretty offense and efficient defense). LSU football is like John McClane in Die Hard, getting his nose bloodied and seemingly outwitted through most of the game (and probably hungover), but generally scrapping and bludgeoning his way to victory.

I honestly have conflicted feelings about this point. Part of me would like to see things clicking on all cylinders. On the other hand, LSU's style of play is generally more compelling to watch, and I've converted a few people up this way into LSU fans because of that. Some of the other good teams over the past decade or so (USC, Bama, Oklahoma, etc.) have been mostly boring and tough to watch. LSU might be frustrating at times, but is almost never boring.

Dural quit on that fly route that would have been an easy TD, he stopped way too early. Flat out, he has underperformed this year, numerous drops, probably almost totalling his actual catches (not the shovel pass stuff included).

I need to rewatch that play, Les said he thought the same thing until seeing it again, the ball was actually tipped. No one on the sidelines saw it until they got into the film room and thinks people sitting in the stands probably didnt see it either.

Les was talking about the play rt after, that ball was tipped and thats why dural couldnt get to it. but on the long throw before that dural just lost the ball in the air, and to be fair he was tugged on a bit.

You are an optimist Bubba. Negs will come crawling out of those crevices after the next bad play.

I agree. And if I may add to your sentence:
as long as we have Les Miles as our HC LSU might be frustrating at times, but is almost never boring...

They need to call that play again out of that formation and just dump it to Fournette.

That's reserved for Bama game.

Harris lobs one incomplete to Dupre in the corner of the end zone, and Hawkins again starts harping on "going up and getting it", but the throw was short and under thrown and Dupre is actually falling down as he's trying to come back to the ball with the defender running over the top of him.

Rewatch that play again. Watch LF sneak out the backfield when EM blitzes and see just how wide open he was. Nobody within 10 yds of him over the middle.

Nobody can say that Harris didn't completely miss that.

Example of how Harris locks in pre-snap.

Not every play has worked obviously, but no complaints on game plan, execution, or effort.

Harris' execution on that play sucked.

Lets see how LSU does against SC? I'm thinking it should be a "comfortable' win but not a blow out. Away SEC games are tough and hell even the home games.

Again, I'm just going by this film, but Dural's block on LFs 75 yarder was absolutely one of those effort plays that usually goes completely unnoticed. It was a very good effort play and one I might not have noticed if not for all the criticism he took ABOUT THAT VERY PLAY because he supposedly walked off the field.

He blocked very well against Cuse and Auburn but that play you speak was a half assed block thrown on a player that was already way out of the play. Then he walked off the field without a care. I have a problem with that. He should not be lauded for that block.

Harris keeps it again on first for short gain, Williams then short gain on 2nd. 3rd and 7, Harris lobs one incomplete to Dupre in the corner of the end zone, and Hawkins again starts harping on "going up and getting it", but the throw was short and under thrown and Dupre is actually falling down as he's trying to come back to the ball with the defender running over the top of him. Again, not a jump ball situation. It was likely supposed to be the fade that worked so well against Syracuse, but Harris just misjudges the throw and drops it in short.

I agree with Hawkins here. (BTW Hawkins knows a thing or two about football)

He fell away from the ball expecting it to just fall to him instead of attacking the ball.

This game was a damn good use of game planning by the coaching staff, and if it wasn't for a couple of plays, the entire mood of the rant would be much different right now.

I agree and I feel this has been said 3 out of the 4 games. We just need to execute better and we'll be alright. If we don't and we continue to beat ourselves, then we could be in for a long season.
