I can tell you I'm not a fan of anyone school. I do root for my picks in the magazine and my favorite team every year is the team I pick to win the national title which this year was Alabama. While this year I root for Alabama each and ever...y week last year while everyone picked Alabama #1, I did not think they would repeat as champs and did not root for them. I have no allegiances to anyone school each and every year, I can assure you of that. Thanks![

This was his response to me on Facebook.
I don't mind the guy making predictions...I actually enjoy it. But when his predictions don't come true, he must remember to be objective.

Isnt this frowned upon in sports journalism?

I am not sure if Phil falls into the category of journalist. His magazine gives overviews of each team and makes predictions on their wins, losses, and what bowl they will make. A bit different than sports journalism.

Since he lives and dies by his predictions it is no wonder he was pulling for Bama. He just did a very poor job of describing the game afterward. OK it was a terrible one sided mess.

I can't believe that his editor admitted the analysis was one-sided.

I can't believe someone employed as an editor actually wrote that email. I think they need an editor for the editor.

Phil Steele is not a sports writer, he is a professional handicapper, that picks games ats and charges people for his services.

In addition to those things, I do believe he writes a column that is possibly even syndicated.

Regardless, I've been reading his website and publications for several years now, and this was, bar none, the worst case of bias I have ever seen from him.

I get Phil Steele's magazine every year but he's very much about stats stats and more stats. He never analyzes a team, rather he uses stats from the past and uses that to determine how Team X will do this year. He's very good at it, but it's not the most joyful read. Like the LSU page this year. 75% is about how LSU has done in the past. The last 4-5 sentences are how he thinks the team does this year.

He's not a sports writer, he's a statistician. A very good one at that.

I have to say I see his (Phil Steele's ) logic.
It's his BUSINESS.
If the teams he picks don't hold up over time,he loses credibility, and he's making a lot less money.
For God's sake he's still yapping about how he picked LSU in 03 to be a stunna.
It's similar to "rooting" for the team your money is riding on.
You don't really care for the team, you just view the game through the prism of that team more than their opponent.
Again, very good letter.
