But why pooch kick it there? It served no purpose. I'm guessing they were afraid of her getting trucked on a kickoff return so they did that little stunt
I’m sure that may be part of the reason (which is reason enough why she shouldn’t be on the field...if she’s a liability for defending the kick return).
But the bigger reason is that she cannot kick it deep like a male D1 kicker can. Probably not even close. Can she kick if farther than 26 yards like she did against Mizzou? Probably. But probably not any farther than 40-45 yards or so (for reference, that would only be the opposing team’s 25 or 20. And even then, it probably wouldn’t have great hangtime.
If she could kick a football that far, there would be video of it somewhere. The fact that there isn’t should be very telling.

This is my issue with the whole thing. Everyone acted like this proved that women can do anything men can do. And it proved the exact opposite.
This wasn't the story of a girl who trained all her life to kick a football and won the starting job for a division 1 power 5 football team, it was the story of a girl soccer player being thrown into the game as a publicity stunt because all the other kickers were sidelined with Covid. I can almost guarantee you that Vandy has at least one kid on their team that can kick it further than her. But their team sucks and the opportunity was there for a feel good story so they went that route.
I am all for women being of equal standing as men in every way except the physical limitations of elite sports. I don't think that its sexist to say that men (on average) are bigger, stronger, and more athletic than women. Obviously the most athletic women are more athletic than the average man but they are still far behind the most athletic men.
I actually do think that one day in the not so distant future a woman will emerge as a legit kicker in college football and the world can celebrate an actual achievement, unlike this dog and pony show we had shoved down our throat this past weekend.

There was zero strategic rationale to pooch, squib, or whatever you want to call that shitty kick.
Oh there was rationale, coaches called for the squib so she wouldn’t have to tackle or get involved in being blocked. She sure the hell wasn’t kicking it to the end zone for touchback!!

Not gonna happen. At least, not at the FBS level. Let’s nip in the bud the whole middle-ground PC rhetoric.
You might as well say that you think one day in the not so distant future a woman will emerge as a legit pitcher in college baseball.
Given the qualifications needed to kick (or pitch) at that level, a female is simply not physically capable. Men and women are very different. It’s nobody’s fault and it’s not
misogyny or sexism. It is what it is.

I'm not sure you will, because even is a legit capable woman kicker existed, there will no doubt be at least one more capable male trying out for the same position. So if we are truly believing in equality, this theoretical woman kicker will never get a shot, not in division 1 anyway.

Pooch kick my arse. They did it for a pr stunt and nothing more. Any normal kick and she either gets injured badly or they just avoid her altogether which is not how the game is played.

People have been too brainwashed by Hollywood, Charlie's Angels, Wonderwoman, and video games.
They've successfully managed to convince large swathes of the population that men and women are roughly equal in terms of physical attributes. So now, lots of people walk on eggshells because they think even the insinuation that males are clearly faster, stronger, and more athletic than females is some sort of controversial opinion.
It's simply a matter of physiology and thousands of years of evolution. Men are physically the dominant sex. And it's not just by a little. It's by A LOT.
Here's a helpful resource so people can educate themselves on reality.
LINK
quote:
But in one way, the sex difference is stark: Men are physically stronger than women, on average. A study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that men had an average of 26 lbs. (12 kilograms) more skeletal muscle mass than women. Women also exhibited about 40 percent less upper-body strength and 33 percent less lower-body strength, on average, the study found.
The researchers found that height and weight differences between men and women could explain only about half of the difference in strength. Researchers reporting in 1993 in the European Journal of Applied Physiology found that men's brawn could also be attributed to a larger cross-section in individual muscle fibers.
And a 2006 study in the same journal revealed that men had much stronger grips than women — the difference was so big that 90 percent of the women scored lower than 95 percent of the men. The team also looked at highly trained female athletes who excelled at sports requiring a strong grip, such as judo or handball. Though these women did have a stronger grip compared with other women, they still performed worse than 75 percent of the men on this task.
In general, men are also faster than women. The fastest woman in the world, Florence Griffith Joyner, ran the 100-meter dash in just 10.49 seconds in 1988, and that record remains unbroken. Yet her fastest time wouldn't have even qualified her for the men's 2016 Olympic competition, which requires competitors to finish the 100-meter sprint in 10.16 seconds or less.
TL;DR version: even the most physically capable females can't hold a candle to men at elite levels of performance.

If there is such an interest in women playing football, just make a women’s league. This kind of crap is so stupid.

Right? Seems like that would benefit them much more

Mo is a big girl. She once kicked a soccer ball from her goal into the other goal during a game.
When it comes to girls playing football, I think it’s stupid.
Are guys now to treat them as we do other guys? Are we now okay to violently slam them to the ground?
Let’s see them take a hit from a 250 lb linebacker or block a 300lb defensive lineman.
Not going to happen .

The tribute song by Sheck Wes that they play for the basketball games really gets the student section going.

This thread won’t age well if Cade York comes out next year identifying as a chick.
