It seemed like a consensus behind JD 5 to me. I do remember some hyping of Nix and Penix but those guys weren't doing it in the SEC and the arm and leg talent of Daniels was well above either.
Media was hyping other players to get clicks and ratings and wanted it to seem close.

It is also fair to say that his stats last year were off the charts partially because our defense sucked and he had to be incredible every game.

No not really.

"he had to be incredible every game" is a weird way to discredit him lol

This entire board was against him before he beat bama in 22

I heard it on Sirius 84 yesterday. They were talking about this year's Heisman vote, and last year's. They said that a lot of people still think Penix should have won because of what he did for his team. That it was only when you looked at the stats that JD became the obvious vote, but not obvious to everyone.

Basically there are a few Heisman worthy players on non-national championship bound teams again this year that deserve attention.

Where am I discrediting him? He had to be incredible and he was. I’m just saying since the defense was bad he had the opportunity to show it off

You are 100% correct. I was thinking about it last night as well. I live on the east coast and not one local individual thought he was worth a damn and only thought he did well against bad teams.

You are correct. It's like Nuss having to compile volume stats this year b/c our running game sucks (and since our D sucks too, he has to stay in games too long).

JD had a historic season but he was in a situation where we had to keep asking him to be historic.

And since Nuss won't run for the 1st down marker to stretch the field

Well, either those people don't know football, have an obvious bias or both.

Without question, JD was the best player in college football in 2023 and it wasn't particularly close. The only knock on him for the league is that he's pretty slim for a guy who runs a lot. That's it.

He checks every other box for a franchise QB and there was a player taken ahead of him, bizarrely. IF he had injury problems on top of being slim, I might have put more of a red flag on him for that.

Whoever in the Bears organization responsible for the evaluation of Williams versus Daniels - and I mean whoever looked at the film on those 2 players and said, "Oh, yeah, Williams is the better choice here" should be fired and not allowed to work in football. I mean, Williams isn't even that big for the modern era (6'1", 214).

That is how bad that evaluation was. That guy or team/committee responsible for that evaluation simply doesn't have what it takes to do that sort of thing for a living.

I didn't really see anyone outside of Oregon fans say that...

lol. stop.

1) this "entire board" rarely agrees on anything

2) he actually had a few games that were like his Heisman season numbers just before Bama '22 (Ole Miss and Florida), so that was probably when his support on here was near its '22 high point (Bama being the top obviously)

Not one person

Not on here, but in the national media realm, plenty...Ari Wasserman - one of the two main CFB podcasts from the Athletic and now with On3 - I thiink he was pimping Jalen Milroe, lol. Plenty of guys (mostly west coasters) pimping Penix and even a few on Bo Nix. These are just a few, there were plenty of examples if you listen to a lot of CFB talk (which I do as I'm a little consumed with it).

There were plenty that parroted the stat padding against bad teams narrative.

No it was actually crazy how many people were against him. I was in the minority and would defend him then get bombarded with downvotes and hate. I’ll pull up the receipts if you want

The funniest thing is watching all the deniers act like he had some crazy epiphany and turned into a heisman caliber player overnight. When in reality it was the team and play calling that got better around him. He was always a great player. He was good at Arizona State and then he brought his talents to us and we made him even better.

It wasn't the entire board, but yeah. MANY were calling for Nuss until that point. Even at the beginning of last year, some dumbasses were calling for JD to be benched after FSU. I'd love to know how many times I read "He's been a starter for 4+ years and he's reached his ceiling"
