And what is Nutt's record vs Miles between Arkansas and Ole Miss?
Posted on 8/19/10 at 6:36 am to RealityTiger
LSU wanted assurances he wouldn't jump to NFL which he did not give, so LSU looked at other candidates. LSU felt like Petrino would have come in probably won a national title and then bolted to NFL and then your right back to another coaching search.

But why does he have "far less talent?"
He's only been there two years.

I think LSU could do a bit better than Petrino if a coaching search was needed.
LOL I would have thought the exact same thing several years ago. However they hired Miles and he had no business even being a candidate for the powerhouse that Saban left behind. Look at Miles' record at Ok State his last 3 years there:
2004 7-5
2003 9-4
2002 8-5
So how does very mediocre performance in a weaker conference get him hired at LSU in the first place?
I honestly think it's b/c Skip wanted/needed a yes man.

But, wasn't Petrino one of the first interviews when we hired Miles ?
Skip passed on Petrino because of his NFL goal. And it was the right decision, remember the Falcons offered him before the 07 season, he would have been gone.

It's because he had success at the 'other' state school. Same reasoning for the Saban hire.
Although I do agree that there was nothing great about Miles' resume.

Wouldn't you love to see Shep, Randle, Tolliver, Toliver, and Patterson in his offense?
Not at the expense of having him as head coach. I just really dislike his whole demeaner. But I am suggesting that we wouldn't have those same guys, because his unlikability would have prevented some of them from coming.

I'd think it would be much more fun to watch than the debacle we saw at LSU last year.
Our offense was garbage, but I'd hardly call the season a "debacle." Was it great--of course not. Is it the kind of season that's acceptable every year? No way. But it was no debacle.

He did get Mallett to transfer in and he's flourished.
Wow, BP got Mallet to transfer back to his own state to the flagship school that had no QB's. Nobody can keep up with those recruiting skills.

He was a blown call from being 2-0 against LSU. He has lit up the SEC with far less talent than he would have at LSU. Give him a good DC and he'll win a MNC.

Give him shite.....he has to go GET the damn talent. I'd give him a slight edge over Miles in HIS coaching ability on Offense......but Petrino would NOT be a good fit at LSU.
Skip made the right decision by not taking him

Bobby Petrino sucks. Who gives a shite about Big East Louisville results?

Louisville went from sucking to winning 10 games under Petrino. (BTW: now they suck again). Look at Arkansas' improvement. I guess you think the best coach is the coach of the national champs every year, right?

Petrino is a want to be ...at LSU..or any other major program,....he's in H.Nutt's class...second tier at best....
what do you think our current coach is if Petrino & Nutt are 2nd tier? Petrino should be 2-0 vs Miles except for an out of bounds call that wasn't last year and Nutt has won 3 in a row, the last 2 convincingly, vs Miles with much less talent.

I'm pretty sure he was saying that the offense was a debacle, not the season. At #112 would you disagree?

And we should have beat Bama w/ this logic.....

How was last years game a convincing win for Nutt?

Hardly. Not even close to being the same circumstances. Had the right call been made with Ridley LSU most likely doesn't get the chance to tie up the game to send it to OT. In Bama had the right call been made with Peterson's INT i would've given LSU about a 15-20% (if that)chance of driving 60+ yards on Bama's D.

Did you not watch how Ole Miss put up over 400 yards of offense on LSU's D and LSU didn't even top 300 even with the last 50+ yards put up vs a prevent D with a hail mary in the mix? I know it all comes down to scoreboard, but LSU was outclassed that day and anyone that watched the game knows it.

Bottom line..in my book........is what the score was. Convincing is like what we did to AU.
But I digress.........Petrino would not work here. Good move by Skip.

It wasn't just the NFL angle. The guy flaked out in the interview. The kind of stuff where you look at the other interviewer and ask, "Is this guy stable?". Skip had no choice.

agree to disagree. i just can't for the life of me see your reasoning behind saying Alabama and Arkansas are the same. i give up.

Coaches are supposed to hire good DCs themselves, not be "given" them. Why hasn't he ever been able to hire a good one?
That is a very good question. Mallory, Peveto, Studs, and Crowton make the comparison more complicated.
Maybe it's a lack of money or just poor judgement.

This myth that LSU has soooo much more talent doesn't pan out if you look at the record these last couple of years.
