re: Recruiting Myth: O is bringing in recruits like never before

our OL was mediocre but our DL was putrid.
Our recruiting in the trenches certainly left much to be desired. Unfortunately, Orgeron hasn’t exactly changed that. He still can’t lock down a true OT and he seems to be missing on elite DL.

This years class average is the same as the 2014 class. Just slightly lower than 2016.

How many?

There were more LB’s than kickers. That was an exaggeration
Spring Football 2017 we only had one Scholarship MLB available in Devin White as the other kid was out with a shoulder injury. Two true freshmen arrived that summer and both played quite a bit due to the lack of depth

I guess it’s a good thing we don’t play games in the spring.

I agree to an extent. Miles always got high rated receivers, offensive and defensive backs to get his recruiting rankings while not doing that well filling needs on the two lines.

In Miles' last 3 years, he finished #2 (2014), #5 (2015), and #2 (2016).
2014 Average: .9125
2015: .8991
2016: .9135
2014 and 2016 had 26 recruits before the 25 player cap. You can backfill which is why Bama has 28 spots this year and will have a larger total point margin over the rest. Also due to the rankings of their recruits course.
2019: Currently .9118 - Most remaining targets are higher so likely we finish higher.
2014 was a very good class with guys like Fournette and Adams, but 3 of our highest ranked recruits didn't pan out (Garrett, Quinn and Valentine). D. Williams, Chark, Gage and others made a good class of mid level recruits that performed well.
2015 had studs Guice, Tolliver, Jackson and Key, but top recruits #2 Tyron Johnson, #3 Maea Teuhema and #8 Okeke were all disappointments.
2016 was a very solid class top to bottom. A good combination of studs and solid contributors. White, Greedy, Lawrence, Alexander, Cush, Fulton, Divinity, Logan, Sullivan and others. Savion was lost due to mary jane.
2017 contributors: Stevens, Chaisson, Deculus, Delpit, Shelvin, Phillips, Harris, Charles, Vincent, Taylor, Queen, Ferrell, Jefferson and others. Another very solid class despite a #7 ranking.
2018 will need another year or two to see how productive, but so far: Marshall, Joseph, Chase, Hines, Baskerville and Lewis have contributed as FR.

Or expect to win national championships with two freshmen as our only backups at MLB
Posted on 2/1/19 at 10:18 pm to Geauxgurt
In Les’s last 3 years he did not use these high recruiting classes to even come close to winning the SEC W

Should finish with a higher avg than 2016.

We need to close out with two of the three DL on our board.

Could happen since we have the final OV with Ish, Moore and Young this weekend.

0 has failed to recruit a position of need depth wise for the 2nd year in a row now. Hopefully signing day can change some things.
Posted on 2/1/19 at 10:39 pm to BayouCowboy
Yep. Would have been nice to get Parker too, but doesn’t look like that will happen. It’s kind of frustrating to not grab a true tackle after the problems we had at that position this year.

and the people claiming Miles last few classes were high level are absolutely correct. All 3 of his last classes are ranked higher than any of 0s classes that’s just a fact.
0regeron did inherit a heavily talented roster that’s also a fact. Can you prove the things you’re saying? Every bit of data says exactly the opposite. Do you have any real evidence of your position or is it just a fan driven narrative?
Not the person you are replying to but I just wanted to drop some information provided by an outside source. This tweet was made before last season and is from April 2018.

In this story, numbers on each recruiting class. One that stings? The 2015 class, where 39% of the signees have already transferred or been dismissed.
From the 2014-2016 classes, only 32 signees (44%) remain on the team right now.

2014 class lost a 5-star in Clifton Garrett and five 4-stars. Was it still the 2nd best class in the nation?

For as much as people loved to talk about Miles recruiting guards and converting them to tackle, Orgeron is having trouble recruiting elite tackles. They don’t exactly grow on trees.

So, why shouldn't people be happy again?
Who’s not happy about the recruiting? I think OP is just pointing out that it’s really no better than what Les was doing. We’ve still failed to sign a dominant OT.
