I was not quit sure if BO was the problem but the fact 18 Clark was played against Alabama the whole game and none of the freshmen were given a shot in there really the entire season has convinced me we need someone else.

This is stupid.

he should've been fired after the Mississippi State game when he kept deciding to play man to man versus an air-raid offense.

Previous Defensive Rankings with Pelini: 2004 - #17 2005 - #3 2006 - #4 2007 - #17 *NC

Do you realize how dumb of a take this is? Go back and look at the offensive schemes teams were running then compared to 2020... The wide open spread, RPO, fast pace/tempo schemes were somewhat rare then. Now, everyone runs it. Pelini runs the best early 2000’s version of the 4-2-5... That clearly doesn’t work in 2020

Aranda had our defense trending downward every year he stayed on the staff regardless of how much people liked him.

People could not stand Aranda last year. However, Aranda was an excellent coordinator. He trended downward because offense trended upwards during his tenure. This is due to two things: 1. High school players are coming to college more sophisticated and 2. The NCAA is increasingly allowing offensive holding and receivers committing pass interference.

Coach O being too vocal of his political opinion has more to do with that than anything.

This is complete bullshite.

Your first point is completely invalid. Back in 2004-2007 teams just got into I formation and tried to our physical you, ran the ball at extremely disgustingly high rates on first down and 2nd and long. 2 WR sets etc. fullbacks were a thing. Now teams spread it out and pass at high rates, it’s hard to defend and you actually need to have a defensive mind to do it.

Your second is also invalid. They’ve played hard, look at the A&M game. They played hard that first game too. Problem is, we blitzed against the purest form of the air raid 52% of the time, that’s solely on pelini. Rush 3 drop 8, 4 and 7 at the worst and you win that game.

Your third point is also invalid. Clark was looking like the next great LSU linebacker last year, he was playing incredible in the national championship. This is clearly a coaching issue with him, and who runs the defense? Oh right, pelini. Flott was getting all sorts of national praise last year from both pff and analysts on Twitter, now pelini has him facing Devonte smith and going outside, which he can’t do. He’s a slot corner. He doesn’t know how to use his personnel

Bama had 7 first half drives last week that resulted in 6 TDs and a field goal. He should’ve been fired at halftime.

How about you show all the stats for teams he has been on as a coach.
Both as dc and head coach.
Stop conveniently picking the dates numbers to help your agenda.

Bo is the issue with the defensive struggles and if you've played any football you'd be able to admit it

Since we're fixing numbers to match sides how about we look at the fact NO OTHER team wanted him besides where he was, Youngstown. That team was paying the guy 230k.

He also was being paid from a former team basically to not coach for them.
Think about that for a minute.

The defending national champions then go and grabs a guy who is not only out dated or old school but also guy that no other team wanted and continues to make him a top paid dc.

He then comes and coaches whike continously showing game after game hes incapable of making adjustments. He's notorious for this. Bo is not good with fixing schemes during games to match his opponent. If memory serves right youd know that this was a problem not only his last time at lsu but during his run at Nebraska. Also, dont use the excuse of him not having "his players." Lsu is a top tier school with better recruits than 80% of all other programs yet he helped break records this year. Not the good records either.

Stop feeding nonsense to back a coach that is the main reason for the struggles this defense has consistently shown. I can assure you other coaches with less pay would have done much more with the players he had this season!!!

You're a complete moron. LSU was 7th IN THE COUNTRY in QB passer rating defensively in 2019. Do you want me to name off the QBs they played? Tua, Hurts, Lawrence, Trask, and Ehlinger. Those QBs finished 1st, 3rd, 9th, 16th, and 18th respectively in QB rating in the country.

Early in the year with the Texas game is the only time a QB just completely lit us up and it being a whole defensive problem. Against UF, Trask was using perfect placement all night minus the turnovers. Against Bama, we were two late game deep bombs to Harris over Stingley from giving Tua his worst game of his career. We made Lawrence look bad, and Hurts didn't start doing anything til we were up by like 40.

I don't give a flying frick what he has to do to get his scheme going. A good coach makes game time adjustments and also adjusts scheme to player strengths. Do you remember Aranda's first year? He used a hybrid scheme to fit strengths. Do remember when we'd get our arse kicked in fist half of games how fast he'd change the gameplan in second half? Both of these Pelini does not do. For that reason alone he should be fired. It comes over lazy or incompetent. Take your pick. neither has a place at LSU.

How did this get 15 upvotes?

It’s a coach’s job to take the players he has and get them to perform the best they can.

It’s not his job to throw his hands up and go, “these kids don’t fit my system, we are gonna give up 600 yards a game for a year.”

Bunch of nonsense.

He is responsible for one of the worst defenses in school history. They only get worse as the season has progressed. They play with no passion and still don’t know what the frick they are supposed to be doing. This was an absolute disaster of a hire by O and the fact he’s the second highest paid d coordinator in the country is an absolute joke

Is this a joke?

Just a little nugget of knowledge, if you took the top 25 worst defensive performances in Nebraska’s HISTORY....Bo owns 13 of them.

His scheme did matter against Moo State. Absolutely. Evidenced by how every other team stuffed them the rest of the year. And it isn't just his scheme. It's his style of coaching. There is very little improvement from the beginning of the season until now. He is accountable.

Those same routes were run by other teams LAST YEAR and we seem to cover them pretty damn well for the most part.

The reality is it starts at the top on defense and that's Pelini. He should have been able to tell early on in the practices that our DBs were not picking up the schemes and made adjustments. He refused to make adjustments during the season and teams continued to expose our secondary time and time again. We are still seeing some of the same problems from week 1 and that's not acceptable, especially when you have the talent that we have.

Sorry, but this season's defensive backfield is the most poorly coached group I have ever seen at LSU and I have been watching LSU football since the late 1950"s. I think the linebacker play has also been weak but I have seen similar play during the Hallman years. They act like they have no idea of basic defense fundamentals.

How did players who played well last season become so clueless over the off season? What changed that needs to be fixed?
